Another summer flies by, this one seeming to go by faster than the rest. Even though we are all tired of our parents by now, working 24/7, or anything else that could've irked us this summer, we will soon be regretting that once the workload of classes hits.

Whether you are the new class of 2020 moving in within the next week or returning college students, this is for you.

First of all, enjoy this last week of summer, even if it wasn't the best summer of your life and you're itching to get away and start new. You might think that you'll never get homesick or will be completely OK without calling your parent or someone from home, but the truth is you'll end up missing it. Cherish this last week with them and your friends from home because we all miss home eventually. Don't lose touch with your best friends from home, it's OK to have your high school friends and college friends blend especially if they really matter to you. Yes this is a fresh start, but that does not mean forgetting about where you came from.

Speaking of calling your parents, make sure you actually do. Keep them informed with what's going on even if it's only once a week. It takes a minute to send a text. I watched my mom be upset most of the time with the years that my brother was in college and I wasn't yet because he would be too occupied to call. All in all, they just want to make sure you're actually alive!

Soak up the sun these last couple weeks, and not even just that, make sure you take advantage of having air conditioning (because a lot of freshman housing doesn't have it). If you're like me and hate the freezing cold, this is what you will miss most while at school because lets be honest, one morning you'll wake up to 30 degree weather and have to walk to class and will probably be crying through the process.

Pack. Get your books, clothes, and just about everything else you've loved these past 18-22 years together before the day before move-in. Believe me, nothing is more stressful than waiting last minute to do this. If you feel like stressing yourself out, wait until syllabus week to figure out the books you need, and pray it gets there before your first test which will probably be in two weeks.

Enjoy this last week or couple last weeks home, but also get excited and enjoy every moment of school, because just like high school, these four years will fly by. Have fun, meet new people, go out, study, but most importantly, grow and mature. You are preparing for your future and you are paying for this experience.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
