College is expensive!!!

5 Things College Kids Are Tired Of Hearing
Kaitlyn Daniels

As many of us know, college is hard and tiring and expensive. But having parents and relatives constantly asking these questions does not make it any better, especially when all you want to do is nap but you also need to be in the library studying but instead, you are on the phone with a relative.

1. How are your classes?

We know you care and you want to know all about our lives away from home but half the time we honestly don't even go to class. When we do go to class it's fine and half the time we are lost on what's going on.

2. Have you made any friends?

Giphy

Yes, mom, I made friends. This isn't high school where you are afraid to sit alone at lunch or where you have to see the same people all day every day. I see my friends when it's convenient for both of us and if one week that means we don't hang out at all because of a big test then we don't see each other.

3. I don't understand why you're always tired

Giphy

I honestly don't understand either. It probably has to do with the fact that on top of classes, given homework and studying I also have to maintain a social life and work. Working 20+ hours a week while taking 15 credit hours adds up.

4. When are you coming home?

I miss you too mom but I can't come home every single weekend or multiple times a month. I may have a big exam on a Monday or I have plans for Saturday. I know it's hard for me to be gone all the time but this is what happens when I go to college.

5. I don't understand why you always need money

Giphy

College is expensive!!! Between expensive textbooks, coffee before an 8 a.m. after a long night of studying or eating out every once in a while because if you eat the dining hall one more time you'll be sick it all adds up.

We are so thankful for our family for caring and wanting to know about what's going on in our lives. We love and miss you too, but maybe find some new things to ask and text before you call just in case we have a big test tomorrow. It is hard being away from home and we know it's hard for you too but it's gonna be okay!!!

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
