We would all love to give all of our attention to the professors and material all the time, but, being easily distracted creatures, this is hardly ever the case. There are so many distractions that go on in people’s day to day life and class seems to be the perfect place to focus on them. Here are some of the top things that take up time in class other than learning:
1. Texting.
There is nothing more distracting than having your phone light up in class. You immediately wonder what it could be about, so much so to the point where you just have to open it. This leads to a conversation and, before you know it, the professor is asking if there are any last questions for the day and dismissing you from class.
2. Reading other people's texts.
Imagine the person next to you typing aggressively at your computer, but the professor is not saying anything that is worthy of note taking. You look over and see that they have their messages up on their computer and they are texting instead of taking notes. This is when your curiosity takes over and you end up reading their entire conversation and coming to the conclusion that, yes, Ryan is being a jerk, and no, Grace shouldn’t wear that out this weekend.
3. Studying for other classes.
With such a busy class schedule, there are times that some classes might overlap. This means that you’ll have to give up some class time in one subject to do better in the next class. This is a dangerous cycle to catch yourself in, but seems almost necessary at the time.
4. Scrolling through social media.
There is no excuse for this one. This is when you’re just extremely bored during the lecture and feel the need to find out what other people are doing with their lives while you are stuck in class. This is when you catch up on all your most important news, like that Kylie is pregnant.
5. Planning out the weekend.
The weekend is the most exciting part of the week for most students. It is the time where there are no classes and you can ignore all of the responsibilities that will consume your life when the week starts again. The best way to pretend that you are still experiencing the weekend is to plan out what you are going to do during the week.
