As I look back from my freshman year to now, I've realized that I have picked up some habits that in high school I would of never thought that I would gain. Some of the habits are good and some are bad, but I feel as a college student everyone at some point starts doing this.
1.Living off of coffee. It took me a couple of years to appreciate my love for coffee, and now I don’t think I could live without it. Most college kids probably drink 2 to 3 cups a day while the hard core caffeine drinkers may consume 6 or 7, depending on how their day is going and how long of a day they still have to get through.
2.Not showering on a regular basis. At the beginning of college, most keep up with their general hygiene, but as you get deeper into college that idea of showering everyday slowly deteriorates and you begin to go a couple days without lathering shampoo. When that happens you start to think of ways to make yourself look like you kind of are presentable, whether it be a baseball cap to hide your greasy hair, wearing a bun (for girls or for the men that can pull it off), using extra deodorant or maybe a bit more perfume or cologne, you try to make it work.
3. Living off of only a couple hours of sleep. At least once in your college career you will probably have to pull an all-nighter cramming for an exam or finishing up a 20 page paper. Once you've pulled off this all-nighter, there will be many other nights when you may only get three to four hours of sleep because you were studying, or most likely out late celebrating that 4.0 you received after pulling that all-nighter.
4. Finding comfort in alcohol. After you do poorly on an exam or have a really rough week, you find yourself figuring out what you are going to do that weekend to make up for that terrible feeling. Whether it be a night out at the bar, a house party or just a night in with wine and your favorite TV show, we all have been there to take away our blues.
5. Not eating when you should/skipping a meal all together. Sometimes the idea of food ranks very low on your list because you have a million of other things you have to do before you can even think about eating. A lot of times you also don’t have time to cook, so you find yourself eating out a lot more than you planned. Don't even mention the 2 a.m. pizzas on a Saturday night.
But even with all these habits, you gain many more memories you won't forget as you're too busy enjoying the best time of your life.
