College Guide To Second Semester Of Freshman Year

Congrats! You've conquered the first semester of college! But you clearly aren't finished yet. It's time to return to campus for the second semester. We all begin with positive thoughts and strive for a 4.0, but that can all change quickly. Stay focused this semester, you can do it! Here are a couple key tips to help you survive the next four months!

1. Welcome Back!

You're ready to leave home, return to campus and enjoy the independent college life for a second go around. But don't forget you have class tomorrow morning. You'll get back into the schedule that consists of early morning and late night studying. Yes, it's happening, again.

2. Don't forget the first day of classes

You're back in the lecture hall with both new and familiar faces. After receiving your final grades from the first semester, you're probably motivated to excel this semester... until you see the syllabus.

3. Remember what you learned the first semester

You spent countless hours studying and preparing for test and quizzes for the past four months, but leaving for the holidays completely erased all the knowledge you obtained. Now, it's time for you to get back to the basics and rekindle all that you learned.

4. Get ready to enjoy the Cafe food for every meal

Breakfast, lunch and dinner is spent at the Cafe. Although the variety of food prepared is not ideal, it'll do for now. In a month or two you'll definitely get sick of it and revert to McDonald's or Chick-fil-a on a daily basis.

5. Breakdowns are expected

We've all been there, crying during late hours of the night in the library as we cram for a test. Expect a couple of breakdowns this semester. What's college without them?

6. Budgeting is key

Starting the semester with plenty of money is always a plus, but if you don't mind your spending, you'll be broke in a minute. Be cautious with your money to avoid mooching off friends and roommates.

7. Sleep. Sleep some more. And a little more.

As a college student, we know we'll never be able to catch up on our sleep, it's inevitable. But any chance you get to catch a quick nap, take it. We can use all the sleep we can get.

8. Weekends save lives

After a long week of hard work, go out with your friends and enjoy yourself. It never hurts to have a little fun!

9. Don't question yourself

We've all tried to come to terms with ourselves and reality at some point, but don't question yourself too much. Just go with the flow and everything will work out perfectly!

Good luck this semester!

XOXO, Maiya

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
