College Friendships Explained

I've only been at college for a short time, but I've been there long enough to have recognized that the friendships and relationships you make during your 4 years at college are like nothing else. Everyone you meet, every friend request you accept on Facebook can open a whole new world of opportunities, and lifelong friendships. Here's a list of people, and groups you might come to know at college.

1. Your brand new BFF

As you leave your hometown best friend behind and you are thrown to the wolves in a whole new environment at college, you start to realize you are completely lost without your side-kick. So you find a new one. Your new BFF is probably one of the only people you've met that understands you're obscure sense of humor and the one who has had your back from day one. You knew from the first time you met, and she laughed at your nerdy joke you were going to be automatic besties. And by the end of first semester she probably knows you better than you know yourself, she even writes your Instagram captions.

2. The squad

Your squad becomes the group of girls and guys that always have your back. The ones that when you don't want to eat alone at the dining hall you just text the group chat and someone is always down for food. Friends don't let friends eat alone. Your squad will be honest with you, they'll tell you when your outfit is definitely not on point, and they will also tell you when it's an inappropriate time to drop it low at a party to spare you from embarrassment. They are your secret pack of ninjas who always save the day.

3. The nice guy

Ladies believe it or not there is such thing as a nice guy, even in college! He might not be Ryan gosling rescuing puppies, but he's the guy you call when you're a damsel in distress, or when you just need a listening ear. He's always willing to pick you up no matter what time of night, and he's always the shoulder to cry on. He also comes in handy when you have to move your room furniture. Be sure not to take advantage of the nice guy, it's a valuable friendship and it should be cherished.

4. The crush

This is the guy you just can't shake. You go back to him time after time. Whether you've actually met him or just stalked his Instagram profile, you for some reason just can't stop thinking about him. You still crush on him even after he's been a huge jerk. Even though he can sometimes take on the nice guy persona be careful because he can also take on the D-bag persona. Make sure you're BFF and squad approve of your crush before catching serious feelings.

5. The jerk

The jerk might fall into the crush category in some cases. He might text you non stop for a few days and hang out with you during the weekends but come Monday morning it's like you don't exist. He’ll probably go ghost Monday through Friday, the next time you see him he's at a party Friday night talking it up with the girl in your class that you don't like. He's a jerk 90% of the time but for some reason you only remember the 10% of the time that he's nice to you. You hold on to every ounce of hope because you want to work out, but chances are he'll make it out unscathed and you'll end up with the scars. Don't settle for the guy who only cares about you Friday to Sunday, you deserve better.

6. The study buddy

If you're lucky your study buddy will be one of your close friends. Probably one of the most vital relationships. This is the person you can text at 2 am when you can't figure out the last calculus problem after your fifteenth try. They can also make studying for exams fun, yeah I said it studying can be fun when you do it with someone who helps you learn and who empathizes with you 100%

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
