1. Freedom/Parties
Indeed, you will have excessive freedom because no one can really control your life. However, it’s easy to slack off, so just be careful with whatever you're doing.
2. A’s in every class, 5’s on all APs, high SAT and GPA, it’s only freshman year, I must be good.
The truth is, you will find yourself on the edge of failing or dropping the class after three weeks of school. C is considered an average.
3. 8 a.m.'s will be fine because I used to wake up at 7 a.m. every day in high school.
The reality of having no "lights out" allows you to stay up until 3 a.m. But whether it’s because of work or you just want to chill, it’s even hard now to make it to 10 a.m. class.
4. Attending classes regularly.
Truth is you’ll find some lectures are boring, plus professors post the lecture videos online everyday. You’ll find it’s better to stay in your dorm, study on your own and prepare for other classes, or just take a nap.
5. Professors must be experts in teaching.
Sometimes you’ll just be so disappointed understanding nothing in class. Lecture time is wasteful and a lot of time you will have to read the book on your own and google/watch more videos about the lessons in order to be able to complete the homework.
6. Getting to know the professors well by sitting at the front row.
The truth is your class contains more than a hundred kids and it's not likely you will be able to get to class early to pick the front row seat.
7. Going to every TA in order to have good relationships
Sometimes you can get a bit lazy and you just want a break between classes.
8. And being extremely hardworking.
A lot of times you will be dragged to unexpected hangouts and parties (sometimes it’s just as simple as playing Cards Against Humanity for hours) with friends and you can’t deny because you don’t want to be rude and lose the friendship with them.
9. If I’m up until 3 a.m., it must be because of studying.
You might just be walking or driving on the street at this time just because no one is there to supervise you.
10. Double majoring - just a bit of challenge
Oh jeez, passing classes for one major is hard enough and now is even harder than you expected.
11. On campus jobs, summer internships, etc.
First: You’ll just blank out when you rewrite your job resume because you have no technical experience.
Second: You’re a freshman.
12. I’m too shy to make friends.
Two minutes and boom, you guys will become a squad and you will end up seeing each other way too much.
13. Everyone will be mean to you because it’s college.
All freshmen are too eager to make new friends because everyone is just new like you. Upperclassmen, your CAs and RAs are the cutest and nicest people and they are willing to help you anytime.
14. Gymming and getting fit
Unfortunately you end up living so far from campus and laziness has already dominated.
15. Eating healthy
The dining hall serves pizza and ice cream every meal, plus WPI has the best cookies on Earth. Plus, you can’t resist the hunger at 12 a.m. And sometimes ramen is just your bestfriend because, again, your dorm is just so far from the dining hall. Freshman 15 can turn into freshman 50 easily.
16. Being completely busy and having no social time since I am in a tech school.
Surprisingly I find myself having more free time now than in high school since I’m taking only taking three classes.
17. Being able to make time for everything, clubs and activities.
If you’re playing a varsity sport, chances are you’re missing most of your other clubs’ meetings and activities because everything is in the evening, at the same time.
18. Controlling your budget
First, there's textbooks, fridges, microwaves, lamps, and school supplies. Then it’s all about those overpriced college apparels, water bottles and those little stickers because everything seems so cool. Moreover, there are just too many good restaurants around that all deliver.
19. No stress or frustration.
Trust me, you can get so frustrated by the third week of school because you have worked so hard, but sometimes your exam doesn't turn out the way you wanted it to.
20. Keeping contact with your high school friends.
You might have cried as you graduated from high school and promised to keep talking to each other everyday in college, but the truth is you’re here having so much fun with new friends and are still on your way to getting used to the new environment
21. Laundry is a struggle.
The reality is, it’s easier than you’ve thought. Just dump everything in the machine, throw in a pod of detergent, and press a button, just one button.
22. Roommates and people in my residence hall are my best friends.
Don’t feel disappointed seeing your roommates having their own squads because chances are you will end up staying in another residence hall most of the time with your own clique.
23. Homesickness
At some point you will even find it a little bit annoying when your parents keep messaging you. Sometimes it’s because of the work load you have to deal with but other times you just want some personal time.
24. Getting dressed up for classes.
No one really cares because most of your mates will be wearing sweatpants and sometimes you just want 10 more minutes of sleep instead of getting up to dress fancy.
25. Wearing a lanyard with ID and key is wickedly convenient.
Surprisingly it’s just a freshman thing and upperclassmen might secretly laugh at you because it makes you look like... a “freshman.” (So far I still think it’s a convenience...why not?)
