10 Valuable Pieces Of Advice For College Freshman
Marissa Ceballos

You're finally starting to pack your bags for move in day. The days and hours begin to dwindle but the nerves in your stomach only get bigger. You are almost to your first day of college and don't know what to expect. Here are some things I wish someone had told me about my first year:

1. Your friends have your Back

In college you are going to meet a lot of people. The people you choose to hang out with are going to define how you spend these years and how people perceive you. Yes you will get into fights because no relationship is perfect. However, these will be the people who's shoulder you cry on or go on late night food runs with. Never forget, when a "friend" is making you feel like a lesser version of yourself, don't be afraid to cut them off.

2. Be Responsible

You are going to have a lot of assignments and work coming at you all at once. Don't let the fun of things get in your way because the consequences are real.

3. Learn how to adapt to the unexpected

In life in general you don't have a set schedule. One day you think you have time but your professors says, "I think I'll assign this today...." You have to be able to switch your schedule around because sometimes life throws crazy things your way.

4. Don't let a boy stop you from reaching your goals

College is a time to be selfish. You hear the story that everyone finds their soul mate in college and that's really exciting. However don't let yourself get sidetracked from your own success. You don't want to wake up one day and realize you gave it all away for a relationship. If he is willing worth it, he will encourage you to seek out opportunities and live your dream.

5. Quit being naïve

You'll save yourself a lot of trouble if you aren't naïve. If something sounds sketchy, it probably is.

6. Know when to move on

Know when a relationship isn't good for you anymore. Know that you can and always will have the power to move on if you feel unappreciated.

7. Your parents are the best advice column

As annoying as they may seem, they really have your best interest in mind. When it comes to guys or work chances are they know how to help you handle it. Never forget to call them, they miss you.

8. Seek out opportunities

9. Your college years are an etch-a-sketch for your life

College is when you start to lay the foundation for your life. Yeah that's a little scary but don't get too freaked out. College is also the years to make mistakes and have adventures. Don't cry when you fall on your face, get up and laugh with everyone else. Life moves so fast, they'll forget in an hour. Don't be afraid to make mistakes because if you don't make them now you'll make them later. At least now you can correct them. Most of all, just enjoy yourself and get to know more people, you won't regret it.

The rest is still unwritten......

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
