It wasn't long ago that I was in your shoes, wondering if it would be easy to make friends or if I'd be able to handle the work load. I'm sure it's a consistent worry among all freshman, so don't worry because you're not the only one and neither was I. Use that to your advantage. College is a completely new ball game, and it's up to you who you want on your team or what plays you'll make to get you through the year. While I still have freshman year still fresh in the brain, here are some things I want you to remember.
1. College is nothing like high school
Walking into college, don't compare it to high school; the people are a lot more friendly, believe me. It's because they want to be there. Don't be afraid to spark up a conversation with the person sitting next to you before class starts. Who knows, that could be your future best friend. It will only benefit you in the end because look what you have there: a person you can meet up with in the library or local Starbucks to study for that class.
2. Make your Professors your friends
Whether you want to believe it or not, a majority of your professors just want what's best for you and want to see you succeed. When you're in need of help, they will do everything possible to get the material through or it's a personal issue they are most definitely happy to help with that as well. When you build a positive relationship with them, there are absolutely no limits on what you can achieve. They will learn your personality and how hard you work. Who's to say they won't help you get internships or suggest you for a particular scholarship. You have a professional reference for life.
3. You have a support system
There are several people on campus or near by ones who have your back on days that are hard to handle. If you're jammed on homework, you have a nice selection of people to call who would love to help. No matter the issue, you will never be alone. We are all in this together.
4. Take nights for yourself
Don't stress yourself on work that you have a few weeks to complete. Finish all the closer deadlines and give yourself a couple nights to unwind. If you give yourself enough time to relax, you're going to have a much easier time getting through the semester. You are less likely to be stressed and you're able to enjoy your college experience rather than dreading it.
5. You can do anything and everything
You are powerful in so many ways. When you apply yourself, beautiful things will happen. Always do what's best for you and never let anyone get in your way. Use tools that are provided to you and make the most out of your college days.
Have a great year and don't worry, be happy!!
