6 Ways Your College Experience Is Like Build-A-Bear Workshop

Your college experience is a big part of your life. It's a huge turning point and basically sets up the rest of your adult life. Everything you do in college will influence your future decisions, so hopefully you make some good ones. It's known that college can be pretty serious, so why not compare it to something more comforting from your childhood, like Build-a-Bear Workshop?

1. Choosing your major

The first step in the build-a-bear process is to pick which stuffed friend you want to take home with you. This is similar to putting on your college applications what your desired major is. You can change it later, but it'll be a little more difficult since you've already made progress with your major and your stuffed animal.

2. Subscribing to a music streaming service.

Whether it be Apple Music or Spotify, you have to get something so you have music to listen to while you're studying without having the commercials and advertisements that come on and are 10 times louder than the music you just had on. This is just like when you add the button inside the bear's hand to make it sing Justin Bieber or have your mom say she loves you.

3. Finals week.

The time of semester that everyone dreads. You're totally stressed out and you really just want to rip your hair out. You get the "good luck on finals" from your peers, which is like the little red heart you put inside. Then you study until you physically and mentally cannot take anymore and you cap off and take the exams. This is the stuffing and stitching of the bear since this is what you've been taking all semester to do.

4. Breaks.

Now that you've completed your finals and you don't even care anymore what your grades are, you take the long awaited break to de-stress yourself. Even though you know you have a paper due the Tuesday after you go back, you still just need some time to watch Netflix and eat some ice cream by yourself. This would be when you fluff the stuffed animal and brush it at the "bathtub."

5. Picking your outfit.

Is it raining? Will it rain? How hot is it? Do I have to walk to the library today or do I just have a short walk? Do I actually want to try? Does this hoodie still have the stain from Chipotle? Life can be a lot easier without a dress code but if you live on a campus with unpredictable weather or bipolar weather, then you'll end up having a bunch of options for one day, just like when you try to pick something for the stuffed animal.

6. Making amazing friends.

When you take the stuffed animal home, it was in a whole different place and it was learning new experiences, just like you do as a college student. All four years will be a unique experience and you'll meet new people all the time. The experiences that you take from college will be with you the rest of your life, so make sure they're fun and worthwhile!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
