There's only one word: awkward.

A Collection Of First Kiss Stories

"When I was in 8th grade, I was dating a really tall guy on our grade school basketball team. We were at a friend's house watching movies, and when it came time to leave it was pretty obvious that he was gonna try to kiss me. He had kissed other girls before, so I spent all night thinking of how to make it a really good kiss. Since he was so much taller than me, I was standing on the top stair and he went two steps below me and hugged me and gave me a kiss goodbye. Just a quick peck. Our friends were in a room next to us peeking out of the door and everyone saw, and I was mortified."

"Mine was in an alley behind a dumpster. On his first attempt he closed his eyes too soon and kissed my jaw, so we had to try again."

"I was in 7th grade and my littlest sister was born so I remember the day exactly. I went to a boy-girl party, and my boyfriend at the time was pouting in the corner. And people were like you need to go over and talk to him, he needs you. So I thought I'd go show him pictures of my new baby sister to cheer him up. I walked over and he was laying in a hammock and I said, 'Do you wanna see pictures of my sister?' And he stood up and said, 'Do you wanna kiss?' So I said sure. He leaned in and tried to kiss me, but he kissed my cheek and part of my lip. I think he was just nervous, but he really missed. And then he went and told everybody that I turned my head and wouldn't kiss him, but he actually just missed."

"I was at an after party for a dance in high school, and all my friends said that this girl wanted to kiss me. So I went up to her and asked if she wanted to go on a walk, and she said yes so we walked around to the other side of the house. We sat on an air conditioner vent and I kissed her, but then I heard people yelling my name, so I put out my middle finger out because I thought my friends were just being annoying, and it was actually the mom of the house. She was not too pleased."

"It was Halloween and everyone left the basement of the party we were at because they knew we wanted to kiss. We were hugging goodbye, but then it was awkward because we both knew we wanted to kiss so we kind of started swaying together and weren't letting go. He pulled away and then kissed me, but it was a really bad, awkward kiss and we separated and started laughing about how awful it was."

"I was at a Creighton Prep football game and my friend asked me to go to the bathroom with her, and I did because I'm that kind of friend. But when we got to the bathroom I saw the love of my life at the time, Ian, standing there with a plastic red rose. My friend ran away and Ian asked me to be his girlfriend. I said yes, he kissed me, and we made it official by putting my name in his AIM profile. I remember walking away from him and being like, 'Ohmygod, what do I do now?!' "

"I was a freshman in high school and we were at a mixer with some schools from the area. I was feeling bold so I asked this guy, 'Can I have a kiss?' After we kissed, we didn't talk much for the rest of the night, but he Facebook messaged me the next day saying we should just be friends. But I'm better looking than him now so it's fine."

"My brother put me in a closet with a boy named Jimmy. He had a rat tail. A braided rat tail. I think it was my brother's friend's little brother, because he turned the lights off and told us we couldn't come out until we kissed. And the rest is history."

"I had mine on my 8th grade Washington DC trip at the Vietnam War memorial. My boyfriend at the time awkwardly asked me to kiss, and it took me a solid two minutes to say yes because I was so nervous. I didn't know if I should close my eyes or not, but I just remember it being wet and not good."

"My first kiss was at running camp in Wisconsin, and me and my camp boyfriend Joe kissed on the docks on the last night. He was the worst kisser ever and I remember thinking, 'Wow, I haven't been missing anything.' Then the next day was the big race and he won, and I have never been more proud in my life."

"I was at a pool party in 8th grade, and we all decided to play hide and seek. The guy I liked asked me to be his partner, so we went and hid in the woods. But he told all his friends where we were gonna hide so nobody would come look for us, and then he said, 'Can I try something?' and he kissed me. Then we awkwardly walked back to the pool holding hands and everybody clapped for us."

"My first kiss was planned by a friend because I was the only one out of my friends who hadn't had her first kiss. So my friend arranged for me and a guy to meet in the stairwell at a Creighton basketball game. It was just a peck and it was very anticlimactic."

"A group of our friends were all hanging out at my house, and people slowly started to disperse. I asked this girl I liked if she wanted to go get McDonald's with me, but I just drove us to a park nearby and we walked around holding hands. Eventually we came up to a bench, and we sat and talked until I got the courage to kiss her. Wet is the only word I can think of to describe it, because I didn't know what to do with my tongue."

"My sister really likes horses so I went with her to a horse farm. One of her friends was there too, and we were just hanging out in the barn, climbing around on the hay. I decided to give her a quick peck randomly, and then we just acted like nothing happened."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
