Being from New Jersey, I have always been around snow and cold weather. When the time came to choose where I wanted to go to school, there was no question that the south was calling my name.
Warm weather and minimal snow? Who wouldn't want to live like that? I traded my snow boots for flip flops and ditched the cold weather tied to the north.
Or so I thought ...
Last week's winter blast would have been too much for the Frozen Queen Elsa. Let's be real, cars were coated in an inch of ice that didn't thaw out until Wednesday. Not to mention that the roads were unsafe for travel for all of Tuesday and into Wednesday.
This was not on the list of things that happen in Greenville. Rain, sure, that is no big deal. Ice storms, however, are not okay, particularly because Pitt County is not equipped to to handle such conditions.
With icy roads and chilling temperatures, school closings happened left and right, first with Pitt County and then ECU. Although this particular storm did in fact leave danger in its wake, I can't help but chuckle at the precautions taken by people of the community.
Once I received my acceptance letter to ECU, I laughed to all of my friends and family saying that I would finally escape the winter weather and the weekly shoveling it entailed.
Well, I guess the joke is on me! This past week brought three days of cold weather, painful temperatures and twenty minutes of trying to scrape the ice off of my car.
With the ice storm behind us, all I can hope for is better weather in the coming weeks. While many people are heading off to warm destinations for spring break, some are staying local fighting the elements. For those of you staying in the cold, just think, pool season is right around the corner.
