Downtown Madison is an adventure in itself, and sometimes it is nice to just sit down, relax, and do some homework at a coffee shop around the square, on State St, or even head out and explore the rest of Madison in order to get some things done. I know.. classic spots like Helen C White Library, Memorial Union, and other places are always tempting to go to because you DON'T spend money... but sometimes going to a coffee shop is exactly what you need because of 1. the amazing coffee and 2. the atmosphere and ambiance provided gives off a vibe that is irreplaceable.

1. Starbucks

Starbucks is an absolute classic. Everyone finds a drink to love there and eventually becomes obsessed with, ranging from caffeinated to decaffeinated drinks. Having such a diverse range of coffee and tea's to drink, the music playing, and the welcoming atmosphere provides a perfect studying spot for students to go to.

2. Crescendo Espresso Bar

This spot has been one of favorites while I was taking a couple of classes this summer. This place typically is not too busy, since the one I go to is located at Hilldale's shopping center and consist of a Metro bus or Uber ride. I believe there is one closer to downtown, but this one has more available space. This place as to-go containers or in-store mugs and glasses to use, and their coffee is phenomenal. I also really enjoyed the lighting, the atmosphere, the music, and the food here too. I will absolutely be going more often during the fall and spring term.

Who does not love bagels AND coffee. You get a 2 in 1 deal by going here and it is super accessible since it is on State St. This place is not as busy as Starbucks either, so you are guaranteed a spot to do some homework and get stuff done.

4. Colectivo Coffee

Colectivo on State St. hands-down has my FAVORITE caramel latte. They are a bit pricier than other coffee shops around them, but I personally think that the coffee prices are worth it. Also, seating at times can be difficult to find, but there is an upstairs and downstairs seating area. The atmosphere is very welcoming and even has 'glass walls' down when the weather is nice.

5. Grace Coffee Co.

This place recently opened up on State St. and is fairly small, but the coffee and atmosphere definitely make up for it. This is a good area to complete homework and study. The seating is super cute, and to make things better.... wait for it.... there is a DOG there typically all day, every day. Is that not the best edition ever.

6. Espresso Royale Coffee

Espresso Royale Coffee is located on State St. and has a TON of seating. The atmosphere is more old school than modern, but it is a pleasant spot to get some stuff done and seating is ALWAYS available.

7. Barriques

Barriques is located in multiple spots downtown-- especially by the Capitol Square. Barriques is typically not crowded since students do not like taking the small hike to get here. Their coffee, however, makes the trip very worth it, as it is a hot and bold brew. The atmosphere is darker, but the natural light makes it absolutely breath-taking. I totally recommend checking this place out.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
