Lately, coconut oil is all the rage. Hearing of all of its different purposes and uses piqued my curiosity. So, I decided to see for myself what it was actually good for and not so good for.
Good for:
1. Shaving
Lather up your legs with some coconut oil for a soft and sleek shave. It is a great moisturizer and it smells heavenly!
2. Makeup Remover
Coconut oil is the best eye makeup remover. It lasts forever and a little goes a long way.
3. Conditioning Hair Mask
By conditioning your hair with coconut oil at least once a week, you allow your hair to be shinier, smoother, and softer. Coconut hot oil treatment? Yes, please!
4. Oil Pulling
Swishing coconut oil around in your mouth for 30 seconds actually kills germs and whitens your teeth.
5. Tanning Oil
Yes! Coconut oil will not only make you smell like you've been on a tropical escape, it will make you look like it too.
6. Stain Remover
Coconut oil will take out almost any stain! I always keep a little container in my purse just in case I spill.
Not so good for:
1. Lip Balm
Many claim that coconut oil is a great alternative to chapstick. However, after my personal experience, I believe otherwise. It actually made my lips dryer and did not last long.
2. Face Wash
Many have also claimed that washing your face with oil can actually be beneficial for your skin. I tried this for a month and my skin went crazy. Clogged pores, breakouts, and everything in-between. It was awful.
3. Sun Burn Relief
Just stick with the aloe.
4. Insect Repellent
At first, I really thought this was really going to work. However, it ended up just making the bug situation worse. I have never had so many mosquito bites in all my life!
5. Perfume
While coconut oil does smell good, it is not a smell that will last all day. I found that putting it on like I would perfume only lasted about 30 minutes.
So beach bums, next time you are at the grocery store, knock several items off your list with a purchase of one coconut!
