We all remember this pattern.
Coach's classic c-print bags were the must-have item during our preteen years. The trademark pattern came on bags, wallets, and other accessories of all shapes and sizes, and we wanted to collect them all until we had this thought: "Wait a second... they all look the same. And they're not even cute? Actually... they're kind of ugly. Why are we spending hundreds of dollars on these again?" Well, it seems that Coach finally had this thought too.
In 2013, Coach started the process of a much-needed rebranding.
The company hired a new creative director, Stuart Vevers, who helped to steer away from the logo-heavy look that had proven to have gone out of style as walking around like a walking billboard for Hollister and Abercrombie did as well. Under the new management, Coach has not only come out with collections with more prep AND edge than in the past but also paired with so many popular influencers and companies to help spread the news.
The release of hologram bags made the statement, "The old Coach is no more."
These designs from a 2015 collection are BEAUTIFUL and so current. They're some of my personal favorites. Irredescent, holographic designs have been trending the last few years and stray far from Coach's usual vibe. But it seems as though Coach realized that, although the company's signature pattern had been a huge success, it was a thing of the past. These designs definitely kicked off a funkier time for Coach's style.
The holographic accessories showed Coach will (finally) incorporate current trends, not only for bags but for clothing collections as well.
Coach has been producing more and more clothing collections, often incorporating recent trends like moto and letterman jackets, florals, embroidery, and patchwork. I honestly had no idea that the company had so many clothing collections, so I was shocked to find out some of my favorite looks from celebs like Chrissy Teigen and Selena Gomez were Coach's designs. Although Coach's style has changed so much, there's one thing the old and new designs both have in common: lots and lots of leathery looks.Selena Gomez has signed on to rep the brand.
If Coach's goal is to bring some youth and excitement to the brand, pairing with Selena couldn't have been a better move. She's one of the most followed people (if not the most followed person) on Instagram and has been dating pop culture starBOY The Weeknd. Selena's collaboration with Coach means that you'll be seeing her showing off designs from regular collections, personalized designs, and designs she herself worked on with Coach's Creative Director Stuart Vevers (pictured above) as well.
This year's collab with NASA is out of this world.
The new Coach Space line is incredible and a huge step in the right direction. What company is cooler to partner with than NASA!? Not only does it show that Coach is making beneficial connections of every sort but it also adds fun, edgier pieces to the brand. Patches and letterman jackets are key pieces for both the retro style that has been trending lately and this collection.
Not to mention... did anyone else hear that Coach bought Kate Spade????
This was a shock. KATE SPADE. The deal was am AMAZING move (and a $2.4 billion dollar move apparently). If you're asking me, it seals the deal on Coach's comeback.
