6 Ways The Clique Books Made Me Who I Am Today

Ah, middle school. It's easily one of the weirdest points in a young person's life, but also one of the biggest learning experiences. My middle school days were filled with reading, mainly because I had to get Accelerated Reading points, and one of my favorite book series was The Clique books. Massie and The Pretty Committee may have been total brats, but they did help form me into the "ah-mazing" person I am today. Here are a few lessons I learned from The Clique.

1. My expensive taste.

For some reason, these girls were in SEVENTH GRADE wearing Chanel and Burberry. I had never heard of these designers before, and boy did they open my eyes to a whole new world. Fast forward to now, I have an extremely expensive taste on a Forever 21 budget. Thanks a lot, Massie.

2. They made me petty af.

These girls were some of the pettiest people on the planet before being petty was even cool. They were mean, maybe even evil honestly. While I'm definitely not saying they were good role models, and I'm definitely not saying that I've grown up to reach their bitch status, they did teach me a thing or two about not tolerating bs.

3. I live for celebrity drama.

The constant beef between Massie and Alisha, Massie and Claire, and Massie and whoever else she was mad at that day was riveting. I personally don't like to be directly involved in drama, but I'd be lying if I said that I don't enjoy sitting back and watching rich people argue. The clique books are probably the reason why I loved #KimExposedTaylorParty so much. I mean, Dylan's mom's show "The Daily Grind" was always spilling the tea.

4. I have a comeback for everything.

Massie always had the best comebacks, and she provided us all with some quality material like:

"Did I invite you to my BBQ? Then why are you all up in my grill?"

"Do you work at a grocery store? Then why are you checking me out?"

"Is this freaky Friday? Then why are you trying to steal my identity?"

"Do you have a towel? Because you're all washed up."

5. They taught me that men ruin everything.

Boys, I love them yet I hate them. The clique books taught me from a very young age that boys can easily ruin basically everything. Every time the Pretty Committee almost seemed to be done for, it was because of a boy. Can't trust them.

6. Strong friendships are important.

While I would never want a friendship like theirs because I'm pretty sure they were the exact girls who would've bullied me in middle school, they did have some good moments. When Massie's family went broke, her friends stayed by her side even though she was *gasp* poor. Claire also helped everyone through a lot and was never really appreciated like at all.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
