The college dorm room is a veritable slew of various forms of uncleanliness. There are usually books and clothes, varying between states of dirty and clean, scattered about the floor, the desk, and the bed. The bed is more often than not unmade, and the bathroom, if there is one, is usually covered in all sorts of grime. This rather unsanitary state of the room is not altogether uncommon in the lives of college students. The reason behind this amounts to one all encompassing reason by way of explanation: there is no time to clean.
The life of the average college student is absolutely packed with things to do, leaving little to no time for students to keep up with the cleanliness of their dorm rooms. Between classes, homework, clubs, internships, and attempting maintain at least a semblance of a social life on campus, there simply are not enough hours left in the day for any student to bother with the cleaning of their rooms.
Let’s walk through the average day of a college student shall we? The day begins with breakfast at the dining hall, that is often rushed so as to make it to class on time. Next up is class. This often runs for several hours, with twenty minute to two hour breaks in between. Then, sometimes there is an internship or a job that needs to be done. Lastly you have clubs. Every parent wants to hear that their child is involved in extracurricular activities, and certain clubs and organizations can help when searching for certain jobs as well. At this point, you, the reader, may be thinking, “Why not just clean in between classes and after clubs?” The answer can be summed up in one word: homework. The average student has readings, essays, workbook assignments, and class projects to get done, and more often than not, due dates tend to coincide with one another.
Overall it is due to a significant lack of time that the average college student does not clean. So, parents, don’t blame your children or child for their messy habits at school. Blame their schedules.
