Classic Family Christmas Traditions

As Christmas time approaches, family traditions fall into place and tons of memories are created. Every family is unique, each with its own home-made food and holiday decorations. Here are 10 classic family Christmas traditions to hold onto forever:

1. Candle-light mass

Christmas mass is always beautiful and special. However, some churches hold candle-light masses on Christmas Eve, when the flames are glowing along with everyone’s Christmas spirit.

2. Christmas cookies

Christmas would not be the same without baking. Cookies shaped as bells, reindeers, and Christmas trees look delicious and super festive, embracing those who eat them in the Christmas spirit.

3. Matching Christmas pajamas

Yes, those families with matching Christmas pajamas may seem “lame”, but they are actually the ones who enjoy Christmas the most! So grab those onesies and slippers and pose on the steps for a classic family picture.

4. Santa’s cookies & milk

Since a young age, Santa was always full of magic. So do not forget to put out Santa’s cookies and milk, and especially don’t forget about carrots for the reindeer.

5. Gingerbread contest

Gingerbread houses are delicious decorations. On Christmas Eve construct the most elaborate Gingerbread house ever, and don’t forget to eat it all later.

6. Home-made ornament giving

Home-made ornaments create a very special Christmas tradition. Giving ornaments full of memories to your loved ones will create concrete moments you’ll never forget.

7. Cinnabons on Christmas morning

The delicious smell of Cinnabons on Christmas morning is the best smell in the world, and the icing is even better.

8. Letters to Santa

Although you may have exceeded the age limit for letters to Santa, reminisce about the times you spent hours on those lists. Sometimes it’s fun to revisit to those days.

9. Midnight celebration

As the clock strikes 12, Christmas Eve turns into Christmas Day. Although it’s not New Years, when midnight comes around so does a new celebration. So grab your pots and pans!

10. Christmas light show

Driving around the neighborhood and admiring the Christmas lights is a tradition I will personally never forget. Some lights sparkle, others blink back and forth, but the holiday lights are truly breathtaking.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
