I was watching TV with my dad the other day, mainly thinking of the fact I had papers and finals to worry about, but then I saw a commercial for a reverse mortgage and my head started swimming.
I asked my Dad about what they meant and he laughed and explained it to me, but it doesn't mean I understood it. "You know, Dad, I wish they would teach us about a mortgage. I have no idea what I am going to do with my life, but I can tell you how to find the hypotenuse of a triangle."
Here are 3 things I would love to have learned in high school:
1. How to manage money:
After I graduated from high school, many of my family members gave me some money to help me survive my first semester of freshman year. Well, I instead went on a shopping spree. Had I known what to do with this money, I might not have made these mistakes.
2. What and what not to put on social media:
I had the scary talks about how people could find you and abduct you on social media, but there was never a list of what you could put on social media. Every once in a while you should be able to post a picture about what is going on in your life.
3. How to use small talk:
This is a weakness shared among many people. It's a powerful skill, yet not used enough by many people. I mean, I know what goes on a resume and how to talk about that, but sometimes just learning about someone (*cough* recruitment *cough*)
Here's hoping that adulthood will bring about understanding of these crazy topics.
