City and Colour, a side project turned musical masterpiece, will release a new album "If I Should Go Before You," on Oct. 9, 2015.
Dallas Green, Canadian singer-songwriter and the voice behind City and Colour wrote a press release on cityandcolour.com that sums up the purpose of the new album and his overall intent with the music itself.
"Over the last two years, I've had the great pleasure of touring with an unbelievable group of musicians, who I can now safely call some of my best friends. "If I Should Go Before You" is the record I made with those friends. It's not "exclusive" to anyone—not to Tidal or Apple Music or Spotify or Rdio or anywhere in particular—but you can find it in all those places. It’s a collection of 11 songs—the thoughts I had on my mind: a last ditch effort to find something better and leave well enough alone. You can steal it, stream it, or even buy it! Just try to enjoy it. I know I do."
Although the album isn't available worldwide just yet, four singles, including tracks the titled "Wasted Love" and "Lover Come Back" have been released periodically since the announcement of the new album back in the summer of 2015.
The first released single, "Woman," is a time consuming nine minutes long with less than 50 words in the whole piece, repeated three times. The track is beautifully crafted and shows true love through the use of words and romanticized instrumental.
These tracks have already received praise among the City and Colour fans with over 200,000 YouTube views in just a couple months. Although that doesn't seem like many, this new album has been kept underground— with announcements only on City and Colour's official webpage.
Below is a list of tracks on the album:
01. "Woman"
02. "Northern Blues"
03. "Mizzy C"
04. "If I Should Go Before You"
05. "Killing Time"
06. "Wasted Love"
07. "Runaway"
08. "Lover Come Back"
09. "Map Of The World"
10. "Friends"
11. "Blood"
The singles already released are not like anything Dallas Green has produced before.
Besides being a co-vocal and co-instrumental record, something the artist has rarely produced on his last four albums, the overall sound has shifted genres as well as eras.
Previously known has the indie-folk one man band—harmonica and all—the tracks range from mellow southern country to bluesy Motown to '90s hair band—although Dallas Green's songwriter roots are still kept strong throughout.
The album in full, "If I Should Go Before You" will be available through every major music store and site nationwide. Pre-orders with exclusive bundle options are also still available.
With the release of a new album also comes a new tour, which will circle Detroit at the Filmore on Nov. 5, 2015.
