The Christmas season is almost upon us. Actually, for some, it's already started. And that means Christmas music.
We all know the classic songs that play on repeat on the radio from Thanksgiving day until Christmas day. However, I don't really see the appeal in Christmas music. Why is it so exciting? Why do people wait all year to turn on the Christmas songs?
For one thing, Christmas music is pretty boring in my opinion. The songs are the same every year, most of them are old and kind of weird, and a majority of them aren't even catchy. Why would I want to spend an entire month listening to Christmas music when I could spend that entire month listening to better music that isn't about Christmas?
Another issue I have with Christmas music is that I get tired of the songs quickly. There's only so many Christmas songs, so you cycle through them all in only several hours, and by the time Christmas actually arrives I am so sick and tired of hearing the same songs over and over again that I just cannot wait for Christmas to end.
And that's the worst part about Christmas music. Every year we start listening to the songs earlier and earlier, and every year I start to get annoyed with it earlier and earlier, so every year I get frustrated with Christmas earlier and earlier. I hate the fact that a great holiday is always ruined for me because we spend so much time hyping up Christmas and listening to Christmas music that I'm just begging for Christmas to be over before the day even arrives.
So here's my plea: let's just listen to Christmas music the week before Christmas. Except for Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You," which can be played year round because it's truly the only Christmas song that deserves to be written home about.
