Everybody loves Christmas. Except the Grinch. And maybe Scrooge. But even they changed their ways! So yes, everyone loves Christmas. But regardless of whether you enjoy this time of the year or not, you've got to admit that it's a pretty magical holiday, and here's why:
1. Family
This is obviously the first thing on the list! Seeing family over the holidays is my favorite thing. Everyone comes home to spend this time together and reconnect after being apart. There is no better feeling than a long awaited hug from a cousin, aunt or uncle who is usually thousands of miles away.
2. Food
We all know you were starving before you walked through the door of the house, and now that you're in you can get in line and make your plate! The casseroles, cheesy corn, Christmas ham/turkey, and the fresh hot rolls are always something you can look forward to.
3. Games
If your family is anything like mine, at some point through the night you sit around a table and break out the board games or deck of cards. Sometimes, you may even create your own game. This year, the newly popular Saran Wrap ball was a fan favorite for sure, putting on gloves and throwing the ball of sticky paper around until we revealed each prize wrapped inside. Whatever tradition your family has, it's bound to be a fun one.
4. Presents
No, this holiday isn't all about opening gifts and getting "stuff", but it's definitely a perk! It's fun to open gifts from the people who care about you and see what ways they were thinking about you when they bought them. Always keep in mind, it's the thought that counts, not what's in the wrapping paper!
5. A good refresher before the New Year
One of the main reasons I love Christmas so much is not only because it's a great opportunity to be with your friends, family, and other loved ones, but also because it's a great chance to get together one last time before the New Year begins. You've gone through a whole year of laughs, tears, and many trials and tribulations. Being able to spend one of the last weeks of the long year with those who are close to you is absolutely important, and makes the holiday that much more special.
6. God
Yes, He's the reason for the season, so obviously He's on this list! It's Jesus's birthday, and the whole world's got to celebrate. Without Him, we would not be here, and there is no greater gift than that. Need I say more?
9. Memories
Finally, we've got a category that brings all of the above together as one. The memories you make each year at Christmas are some of the ones you will cherish forever. So yes, take lots of pictures and videos, maybe even write an article about it, but always remember that this holiday is more than the presents under the tree, and the food on the table. This holiday is something to be remembered, and to be spent with the people who will never let you forget it.
