Dear Santa,

Christmas as a college student is on a whole different level.

For some of us, we just might have to sacrifice decorating the tree with our family to take some of our dreaded finals. For others, Christmas becomes something much more. It turns into a time to appreciate your family and loved ones that maybe we haven't seen in a while.

Another big change as we get older has to do with our "Christmas List."

We move on from circling the toys and gifts we really want in the Target ads to praying for things we actually do need. I think we can all agree there are multiple favors we could have done for us by the people we love during this holiday season.

1. Straight A's

I would find it really hard to believe that there's students out there who don't want to ace all their finals. This is definitely at the top of my wish list this year.

2. Clear Skin

Even if you already have clear skin, you're going to continue to want it. How do we not have a cure for acne already?

3. Free Tuition... along with room and board

Basically, free college. Imagine not having any debt when you graduate! I'm sure no one would be complaining about that.

4. Cancelled Classes

Dear Santa, if you cancelled all my 8am's I would be forever grateful. Some extra beauty sleep would be nice.

5. Money

OK obviously this is one wish we have year round, but during the holiday season money can be wicked tight. On top of the usually spending on uber and other necessities, we still have to buy our families all that college t-shirt we promised them.

6. More Dining Dollars

It is really hard to not spend all of it when you have a Dunkin and a Starbucks on campus. Maybe next semester will go better.

7. Warmer Weather

Walking to class in a blizzard and -35 degree weather is NOT fun. No thank you, I'll pass on that one.

8. A Longer Amazon Prime Membership

Six months is not long enough and if you signed up right at the beginning of the school year, your time is running short. They should really just make it a yearly free subscription.

9. Good Health

Being sick at college is one of the worst struggles. If you have not experienced it yet, brace yourself because there's a chance the plague is coming to you and your campus next.

10. Unlimited Apparel

I could spend hours in the bookstore picking out every sweatshirt, t shirt, or hat that I wanted. You can never have enough school spirit and I would love to be able to rep my college 24/7.

Please be good to us this year.

Sincerely,

Hopeful college students across the country

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
