Taylor Swift wrote some very popular songs, and I found that some of the lyrics made me think of how the enemy tempts Christians, and how the Father will always prevail. Thank you, Taylor.
1. "You Should’ve Said No."
"You should've said "No." You should've gone home. You should've thought twice 'fore you let it all go."
Think about this. Temptation is something that we all struggle with as humans and “each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desires and enticed” (James 1:14). We all have those moments when we should have said no, and brought our temptations to the Father. We should have gone home.
2. "You Belong With Me."
"Can't you see that I'm the one who understands you? Been here all along so why can't you see...you belong with me."
As humans, a lot of time we experience this blindness to what Christ is calling us to. He knows that we belong with Him, and He wants to love us in such a beautiful way. If only we would open our hearts and listen to what he has to say.
3. "I Knew You Were Trouble."
"I knew you were trouble when you walked in, so shame on me now; flew me to places I'd never been; now I'm lying on the cold hard ground."
We all have those moments where the devil wins in our lives. Temptation overrules and our desires get in the way of God’s voice. Lord, help us to triumph in situations like these, and to listen to your voice.
4. "Style."
"When we go crashing down, we come back every time, 'cause we never go out of style."
Every time I feel like I have hit rock bottom, the Lord always reveals Himself to me. I can always count on Him, because He truly will never go out of style.
5. "Love Story."
"Romeo save me, they're trying to tell me how to feel; this love is difficult, but it's real. Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess; it's a love story, baby just say "yes."
The Lord simply wants me to say “yes” to His plan for my life. The culture around us tells us that freedom is doing whatever you want; however, true freedom lies in denying yourself, taking up your cross, and following the Lord. Saying “yes” to Christ’s merciful love will set you free.
6. "Fearless."
"You take my hand and drag me head first, fearless. And I don't know why but with you I'd dance, in a storm in my best dress, fearless."
This is simple, for “I can do all things through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13). Fearlessness is complete trust in God’s plan.
Thank you, Taylor. Thank you for being the songwriter whose quotes are most Googled. Moreover, thank you for touching our hearts and giving us a little bit of Jesus in your songs.
