Christians, Stop Living A Futile Life

When we choose to live a life without God's guidance, we are choosing to live a futile life.

I have spent a good portion of my life searching for who I am through the lives of those around me. I allowed everyone around me to create me into the person I thought I needed to be. However, it was not until my first year of college that I finally started searching for myself through my experiences and my moments. I stopped looking towards others for their approval and began looking in the mirror for my own approval. And it changed my life completely. I will soon turn 21, and I remember in high school thinking about that age. By 21, I expected to be married or at least know whom I am to marry. I thought that I would have reached my weight loss goals by then, and finally let go of the image I had of myself when I went through my eating disorder at 14. But still today, almost at the age of 21, I have no idea whom I will one day marry because I have not been in a relationship since my junior year of high school. I have not reached my weight loss goals, even though I am now putting my attention towards those goals. And even though I realize that the weight I once was at 14 is not healthy and should never be my goal, the mental picture never leaves my mind. However, I have realized that I cannot plan my life out and expect it to go exactly how I want it too. Because if it did, I would not be thankful for what God has brought me through. Plus, what I may believe is best for my life does not mean that it is what God believes is best for my life. Psalm 94:11 says, “The Lord knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile.” I ended up looking up the definition of futile, and I found that it means having no result or effect. Or another great way to put it is that futile means pointless and useless. If we plan out our life exactly how we want it to be we are creating ourselves a futile life. Without Jesus in our life, our life is only useless and pointless. Which will lead to destruction. 1 John 5:12 says, “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” Which means if we do not have a relationship with Jesus, we cannot get to the Father. Which also means if we live a life without the Lord, then we are living a futile life, and if we live a futile life, that means that we are choosing to plan out our own life without God’s guidance. And planning out our own life only leads to destruction because we may think that we know what is good for our life, but only God knows what is best for our life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
