I Chose To Room With My Best Friend In College And This Is What Happened

“Honey, I’m home,” she yells as she walks in the door. I do not think there is anything else to better describe the memories we are creating right now. I was told over and over again that living with my best friend would crash and burn or I would be regretting the decision to live within five feet of her.

Ultimately, they were wrong. Living with my best friend is actually the best decision I have ever made. I thought I had struggled in the past, but the first few months of college has kicked me in the butt, but she was there to listen to me rant and cry about the same situations. She was there when I was going through the hardest time of my life. She was there when I talked about the same person for months even though she thought I was crazy. Choosing to room with her it the best decision I ever made, at least for my sanity. Hope I do not drive you too crazy roomie. Here are a few awesome things that happened because I chose to live with my best friend.

Pants are not required.

World’s best words right here. No description required.

Late-night jam sessions happen nightly.

We actually call our late nights “Garage Band Sessions,” and this is ultimately the best way to relieve stress. Listening to Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber dancing or jumping from bed to bed because we don’t want to do homework will be something I will continue doing for the rest of my life. Pray for my future husband, please.

The bathroom door is always open and stays open.

Even though I am only five feet away from her 24/7, sometimes she doesn’t even get a bathroom break. Most of the time we are too busy telling stories or running around like crazy people so the door has to be open or you just might miss a life event happening, for example, getting that one text you have been waiting for.

Matching everything.

This came in handy when buying all the “necessity” dorm stuff we needed. Rooming with my bestie made planning dorm accessories so much easier and so much cuter. At least you understand my rationality of why we must buy the most expensive bedding instead of the $50 set. We had the cutest dorm on campus, no doubt (at least until our room flooded).

I get to wear her clothes.

I promise I ill not stretch out your heels or stain your dress. By living with my best friend, the term ”shared closet” in the dorm has no meaning. So many perks to having a stylish best friend who loves clothes and shoes more than life.

She doesn't judge me when I eat ice cream.

Not only did she not judge me eating ice cream at 2 a.m., but she also ordered pizza for herself. Since day one, El Jalisco’s food has brought us together and even though we don’t have a good place like that where we live now, at least I do not have to sit by myself in the dinning hall.

I always have someone to listen to me rant.

Thank you for listening to me talk about the same problems for the past year. Even though you thought I was crazy you listened to my rants, my cries and more importantly you Facebook stalked the guys I said were going to be “my future Husband” for your approval. By rooming with you, I always have my best friend 5 feet away. I guess there are no secrets anymore.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
