Choosing Joy

Letting go of the negative to make room for the positive.

It's harder than you might think. Turning off your phone, unplugging your laptop, deleting, blocking, removing, erasing, organizing, and prioritizing your social media and your life. All it takes is one decision. One choice can be the difference between living your life focused on negatives instead the positives. Choosing joy and letting go of negativity is challenging, but it is just as rewarding as it is challenging.

Personal life can be very similar to these social media actions. I think it's healthy to do a good spring cleaning every now and then, regardless of the season. You go through many different seasons in life, and it's not only normal to do so, but we are encouraged to make changes.

Instead of wishing things could change, like wishing you could change a filter on a picture you've already posted, just make the change! You can't change things by wishing them away. You have to take action. You have to do something. You have to make a choice.

If someone does not bring joy in your life anymore - delete.

If something doesn't increase value in your life - block.

If a memory is causing more destruction than happiness - remove.

If a habit is not helping you succeed - erase.

If you are not living your life the way you want to - change.

You can choose to delete a photo, a person, or a past memory. You can choose to remove the anger, the frustration, and the hurt. You can choose to organize and prioritize your life.

Instead of choosing the negatives, you can choose the positives.

You can choose joy, happiness, peace, and no longer take things for granted! Just like you can choose what photo to post on social media, or what hashtag to say, you can make a choice to unplug, live in the moment, and live for the moment and the little things.

In 2017, I want to be a better version of myself, and that all starts by deleting, prioritizing and choosing joy. Pure and simple, joy.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
