Last week, I went to Moe's during my lunch break. It was a huge deal for me, because I've always been a Chipotle girl. However, Moe's is in the same shopping center as the store I work in so I had to make a sacrifice. I ordered a burrito and evaluated their food. Here are my ratings (out of 5 stars):
Chips:
Chipotle- ★★★★★
Moes- ★★
II didn't want to give Moe's 1 star on their chips, because they aren't bad. I mean, it's not like I bit into it and was disgusted — they tasted like normal tortilla chips. I just couldn't give them a better rating because they lack the delicious flavoring that only Chipotle's chips have. Sure the chips from Moe's were free, but so is the food you can get with meal swipes your parents paid for from your school's dining hall... But that's not going to stop you from ordering pizza.
Guacamole:
Chipotle- ★★★★★
Moes- ★
I ordered a side of guac. The guac from Moe's lacked flavor. It tasted like it was bought at a supermarket in a plastic container. Chipotle's guac is loved and spoken about by the entire country. It tastes AMAZING. Yes, it is more expensive to order guac at Chipotle. It's $2.10 at Chipotle and Moe's it's $1.25. It's probably less expensive at Moe's because they know it sucks. I was unbelievably disappointed by it. Also, I ordered it on my burrito and I'm not even sure it was there. I couldn't even taste it.
Burrito:
Chipotle- ★★★★★
Moes- ★★
Although the chips at Moe's are included, not much else is. Most of the things that they have cost extra for the burrito, while everything but guac is included in the Chipotle burrito. The queso at Moe's was extra, so I decided it wasn't even worth trying. Also, why did Moe's offer mushrooms and bacon? Why would I want mushrooms or bacon on my burrito? I ordered half chicken, half steak. At both restaurants, they charge you for the more expensive meat when you order half and half. The steak burrito (without guac) costs $8.25 at Chipotle and $7.50 at Moe's. Once again, it's worth the extra 75 cents to go to Chipotle. The Moe's meat was saddening, the tortilla wasn't warm, and the sauces were kind of gross. Moe's even offered free sauces on the side. Guess what? This may shock you, but they weren't good either. I now understand why my best friend has always described it as "tasting like dog food."
Final verdict:
Chipotle- ★★★★★
Moes- ★
Moe's was extremely disappointing. It costs less because it tastes cheap. Chipotle food doesn't include hormones, antibiotics or GMOs. Food from Moe's contains all of that. They even wrote on their website under FAQs that they can't guarantee that. There's a Moe's in my town and the closest Chipotle is 15 minutes away. I don't care if I lived next door to Moe's and Chipotle was 2 hours away: I am NEVER going to Moe's again. I'm not a picky eater. I love food. However, Moes is so disappointing. It isn't worth it.
So basically, if you feel like eating tasteless mushy dog food or you truly believe that saving $.75 is worth it... Go to Moe's.
