While searching through Netflix the other day, I started thinking back to the movies I watched as a kid. A few movies came to mind so I started talking to friends about what movies they remember watching as a kid. I was surprised that there were some movies from our childhoods that no one even knew of. Here is a list of ten movies that have been forgotten over time.
Dinotopia
Considering the fact that I love dinosaurs, the first movie that came to mind was Dinotopia. This one was one of my favorites. This came to mind because I was searching the internet for a copy of it and found it incredibly hard to find. For those of you who don't know what this movie is about, its the tale of two brothers Karl (played by Tyron Leitso) and David (played by Wentworth Miller) who crash land their fathers plane and wash ashore on an island they soon find out has more than just humans living on it. When they start to explore the island they find themselves in Waterfall City, a place where humans and dinosaurs are living in almost complete harmony. When things in Dinotopia start to head south, its up to Karl and David to save their new found home. Dinotopia was released in 2002 over the course of three nights. Unless you buy it in a movie combo pack, the only other version I have found has been on Amazon.com for $67.15 plus shipping and handling.
Quest for Camelot
While I never actually watched this movie, it was one of my friends favorites growing up. Quest for Camelot was a 1998 film that focuses on an adventurous young girl, a young blind hermit and a strange two headed dragon and their race to find the Excalibur (the sword from The Sword in The Stone) and save King Arthur and Camelot from certain disaster. Quest for Camelot is available on Amazon and able to be rented or bought off of Netflix's website, but not on Netflix itself.
The Brave Little Toaster
This 1987 Disney classic features a toaster, a blanket, a lamp, a radio and a vacuum Cleaner. The movie follows this unlikely group on their adventure to the city to find their master after being abandoned in a cabin in the woods. The group of outdated appliances found themselves stranded in a summer home that their family had just sold. When they figure their eight year old master is not returning for them, they decide to take an "incredible adventure" to find the master. Both The Brave Little Toaster, and the sequel The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars are avalible on Netflix and Amazon.
George of the Jungle
This 1997 Disney movie stars Brendan Fraser as the main character George. George is a Tarzan like figure, but is not Tarzan. The movie is an adaptation of the old cartoon series. The movie starts when baby George is a survivor of a plane crash in a jungle. Miraculously he stayed alive and was then adopted by a wise ape. Years later when Ursula Stanhope, is saved from death on safari by a grown-up George, he takes her to jungle to live with him. Through the movie he slowly learns the rules of human relationships, all the while Ursula's lover, Lyle, is looking for her and George. After they are found, Ursula takes George to the USA where he is forced to learn the rules of society and Lyle is on a mission of his own. The first movie in the series is not available on Netflix but is able to be found on Amazon.
Mighty Joe Young
While on the theme of movies about people and apes, Disney's Mighty Joe Young is one that has been forgotten. This 1998 film is about a legendary fifteen-foot tall gorilla named Joe who is taken to an animal sanctuary in California by the zoologist who he grew up with. In the movie, when Joe is taken to the sanctuary, the poacher who stole Joe's mother returns to seek his vengeance. The Poacher also took the life of Jill Young's (the zoologist who he grew up with) mother the same night he took the life of Joe's mother. Mighty Joe Young is not available on Netflix, but can be found on Amazon.com for a relatively low price.
The Adventures of Milo and Otis
The 1986 film, The Adventures of Milo and Otis, tell the tale of two best friends, one a dog and one a cat. One day while playing Hide and go seek they get accidentally separated. They cross literal mountains and snow covered plains to find one another. This movie was quite possibly one of my favorite "feel-good" movies as a child. While its unavailable on Netflix, it can be purchased on Amazon.com for a relatively low price.
All Dogs Go to Heaven

This was a movie I remember watching over and over and over again. I loved the dogs and the genuinely up beat story. For those of you who have no clue as to what I am talking about, the 1988 film, All Dogs Go to Heaven follows a casino owning dog named Charlie, who is murdered by his rival Carface. Charlie finds himself in Heaven by default because all dogs go to heaven. Since Charlie wants to get back at his killer, he cons his way back to the living with the warning that doing so will damn him to Hell. Once back on Earth, he teams with his old partner, Itchy to get ready for payback. While on Earth, he also stumbles into an orphaned young girl who can talk to the animals. This allows Charlie to get the inside info on the races to ensure his winnings to finance his plans. However, he is still haunted by nightmares on what's waiting for him on the other side unless he can prove that he is worthy of Heaven again. This movie is bound to make anyone with a heart smile, the movie is available to own via Amazon.com or Netflix DVD services.
The NeverEnding Story
Bastian is a troubled young boy who lives a dreary life filled with being tormented by school bullies. On one occasion, while out running bullies, he escapes into a book shop where the old proprietor reveals an ancient story-book to him: The NeverEnding Story. Bastian is warned the book can be dangerous. Shortly after he "borrows" the book and begins to read it, he is drawn into the mythical land of Fantasia, which desperately needs a hero to save it from destruction. Bastian sets forth on a daring quest to save this magic land he has found himself in. The movie is available through Amazon.com and Netflix DVD services.
FernGully: The Last Rainforest
The 1992 film focuses on the importance of the environment and how we can make a difference. This movie was quite...interesting... for a lack of better words. In FernGully: The Last Rainforest the magical inhabitants of the forest fight against the logging and polluting forces that called Hexxus that threatens their home. The main character Crysta is a fairy that does not believe humans exist and is curious about the outside world. One day she stumbles upon a human named Zak and accidentally shrinks him to fairy size when she tries to save him from being crushed by a falling tree. Together they work to stop the evil Hexxus from destroying their home.
