With more time spent living, your perspectives are bound to change from time to time. Sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. Here are a few things that you have probably changed your mind about since childhood.
1. Then, $20 = $100. Now, $20 = $1.
This realization of the true value of a dollar likely comes from your newfound obligation to earn your own living. Whether you are salaried or paid by the hour, you start seeing dollar signs as your own time and effort put towards working to support yourself.
2. Then, naps = torture. Now, naps = key to life.
I was definitely that kid that just laid on my sleeping mat, unable to fall asleep and growingly impatient to get on with the day. Now, naps are made a priority when time allows. Sometimes it's all you need to get you through your jam-packed schedule.
3. Then, 30 minutes = 3 hours. Now, 30 mins = 10 mins.
Recess, though it could always be made longer, was the highlight of many students' days and was always well-worth the wait. Now, 30 minutes to leave the house to head to work quickly turns into 10 minutes without you even noticing the clock speeding past you.
4. Then, school = free friends. Now, school = $xx,xxx friends.
Grade school was likely your major social outlet, the place where you spent most of your days. The activities were usually free or nearly free, and so were those involved. College and adulthood can bring you Greek Life, tuition, and various membership clubs. At least you are in this obligation to pay, all together.
5. Then, work = homework. Now, work = bills paid.
Homework meant the little bit of hassle at home before you could kick back and ride your bike, or watch the latest Disney Channel movie. Now, work means pay checks and goals to be set for yourself. Let's not forget the utility bills and rent that adulthood unfortunately brings.
6. Then, friends forever = until middle school. Now, friends forever = until the end.
In elementary school, you never knew if someone would move away, and it was likely you would grow apart from a majority of your "best" friends. Now, your forever friends are the ones you know will actually be there for all of your major life events. After all, we are all in this transitional struggle together. Take a look around and hopefully you're able to see that you have the greatest support system surrounding you.
