Ricky Ricardo, a local Potbelly worker struck gold Sunday morning when he logged into his GoFundMe account. His 48 hour campaign was able to raise fifty thousand dollars. And all in ones!
Coming off the heels of previously failed gofundme attempts at paying for his sick nephews medical bills, and dogs funeral-Ricky has won the hearts of millions as he collects a check halfway to six figures. Ricky thought he hit rock bottom after his nephew passed away and his dog was buried in a laundry basket, but with the help of social media and thousands of good samaritans-his future’s looking up.
I tracked down one of Ricky’s contributors and asked why they connected so strongly to the plea. The anonymous source said “Quite frankly I saw myself in him. I know what it’s like to get off a 12 hour shift Monday night, and feel desperate for a pick-me up. I think Ricky’s story is what crowdfunding is all about."
Ricky plans on spending 1000 bones a night for the next 50 days at various strip joints throughout the city.
“The goal for the campaign was just 50 bucks initially.” Ricky said. “But it took a life of it’s own after that. People from around the city were contributing hundreds of dollars because they knew the exact situation I was in and could feel my pain. The warm feeling I get making it rain under those neon lights, wow. Get me some more a dat."
And some more a dat you will get Ricky. Some more a dat you will surely get.
