Cheers To 1204

Shout out to the breezeway that made my freshmen year memorable

Freshmen year is always the craziest time of your life besides senior year. I was lucky enough to be placed in one of the most memorable places at NKU that holds so many great memories. While the fourth roommate didn’t come alone until months later, she was the missing piece that helped complete 1204.

I was in the freshmen breezeway so we had an RA and Peer Mentor. While I cannot remember our PM, our RA became one of our closest friends. He attended some of our biggest accomplishments at NKU, from our first theater shows to just coming over to eat food with us. He also was the one that introduced us to the neighbors on the third floor. Meeting them lead to one of the most insane roommate wars, some will even say it went to far. Well 1204 would say they took it to a completely different level that we were not prepared for. Let us not forget the doughnut that hit one of us in the face as it came flying through our window.

My time spent in 1204 was filled with so much laughter. It was always a battle of what music we would clean to - would it be pop, punk or musicals. My roommate and I always battled the other two for the music that week. I got to experience Hairspray on stage, learn about different musicals, and have a live-in makeup artist that we all learned everything from. Most importantly at the end of the day I had a support system, a family, and people that watched me grow my freshmen year. Without them 1204 and NKU would have been completely different. We may all have gone through recruitment, joined different sororities (me and my favorite GDI were different) but we always picked 1204 at the end of the day. We had so many inside jokes and a language others would never understand.

If you are lucky enough to end up with great roomates, an awesome RA, and neighbors - never forget them. They are the reason your time in college was spent laughing, crying, and discovering. Without those three women I know NKU would have been a completely different beginning and I am lucky enough I never have to know what it could have been. We may have all went in different directions in life but at the end of the day 1204 held some of my fondest memories. From stringing Christmas lights through our entire outside of our dorm and having to take them down because of fire hazards, struggling through statisitics (an 8 a.m. is never good, especially when it's math) or pretending to understand our philosophy professor. From late night car rides to All Time Low Concerts. Not everything was so easy with us we all went through a lot of there issues but we had each other to go through them. There was nothing about my freshmen year I would ever say I regretted, except that there wasn't more time.

1204 is a special place and I hope to all the other students that get a chance to live there create some of their best memories. My freshmen year was one I’ll never forget and although we are all at different places in our lives. I know that when I see anything about those women pop up on my timehop it takes me back to that room and that breezeway and I begin to laugh. Here’s to 1204 and to the memories of lost freshmen learning to grow-up. #gotigers

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
