I am a lover of television and binging TV series is one of my many hobbies. Recently, I saw commercials on the CW about a possible Charmed reboot. I had never seen the original but had passed by it many times while scrolling through my Netflix recommendations. So, towards the end of summer, I decided to commit and start the supernatural series. Now, as I am over halfway through the show, I would like to say that the Halliwell sisters; Prue, Piper, Phoebe, and Paige, have actually taught me important life lessons and I can proudly say that the new spinoff will never live up to the expectations.
1. Girls can do anything boys can do.

Girl power is such a popular trend in the media right now and I feel like everyone is all for it. However, Charmed was filmed in the late 90's and I honestly can't think of that many successful shows that were female based to this extent. Sure, there are shows where the leading star is a woman, but Charmed is mostly female. Because of this, the sisters are portrayed as very strong and independent as mortals. Well, when you add in the supernatural element and how their entire destiny is to save the world from demons, it proves that this is not just a man's world anymore.
2. Love at first sight is possible.

You may think this show is only about the supernatural, and if you do, you would be very, very wrong. The sisters are in their mid 20's, so they are dealing with family, occupations, and romance. Love at first sight is always kinda romanticized and overdone. It seems almost too fake to believe that real life fairytales happen. However, Piper meets Leo Wyatt in the first season and believes he is just a simple handyman. Instantly, she was interested. However, Leo is a lot more than he seems and as a viewer, Piper and Leo are meant for one another. I love them as a couple because their story is not easy or simple. They definitely go through obstacles and have to work to make their relationship work, as a normal relationship would have as well.
3. The dangerous boy can actually be really sweet.
Cole Turner and Phoebe Halliwell

Every good romance story includes a bad boy, Charmed is included in this theory. All of the sisters struggle with love and have had their fair share of failed loves (I mean, how many sisters can fall in love with demons?) Yet, Cole and Phoebe are a completely different dynamic. Phoebe is known throughout the series to be the irresponsible sister, so when she meets D.A., Cole Turner, fans cheer on Phoebe for finally finding a nice guy.
However, Cole just happens to be the most successful demon in the evil realm, Belthazor, whose goal in life is to destroy the Charmed Ones. Now, you may be thinking that this could never work, yet the power of love is stronger than the battle between good and evil. Cole and Phoebe do try to make their relationship work, even if they may be a little dysfunctional. Plus, Cole is actually really sweet to Phoebe so we all kinda ship their relationship, okay?
4. Your fashion choices are an important part of your day.

I love watching shows because the fashion can be hit or miss. Charmed is one of those shows where the fashion can be 50/50. It is based in the late 90's to the early 2000's, so the fashion is a little retro. Phoebe is my personal favorite fashionista, out of all the sisters, because her style can change from sexy club look to Baby Spice in just an episode. However, all the sisters pride themselves on their fashion choices and won't be seen fighting demons in anything less than a good pair of high heels.
5. It's okay to grieve.

Oh boy, do these sisters lose everyone in their lives? From Grams and their mother to lost loves to the temporary deaths of each sister, the Halliwells have learned that it is okay, and necessary, to grieve. Loss is natural in life, even for witches, and even though it may break your heart, you need to grieve to be able to move on.
6. Anything is possible with hard work.

The sisters got their powers pretty late in life and it was not an easy thing to master. One thing about the show that I personally like is that their powers grow with them over time. They weren't just handed all these powerful magic in episode one and then, that's it. As the sisters develop, so do their powers and knowledge. They are constantly going through trial and error which is something that I think is helpful in life. You aren't just born with your full potential, it takes time and anything is possible with hard work.
7. We all have to overcome our own "demons."

Yes, the sisters have to vanquish actual demons. However, they do have to overcome the battles of lost love, family issues, and personal growth. Sure, witches don't actually exist and the normal person isn't vanquishing demons, assassins, or the Source, but we do have our own "demons" that we have to learn to vanquish in life.
8. Stop blaming yourself.
Piper Halliwell

Every time something bad happens to the sisters, usually a death, they seem to blame themselves. This is where the sisterhood comes in, they always seem to know exactly what to say to cheer up the other one. So, in this case, stop blaming yourself if something doesn't go as planned, it probably wasn't meant to be.
9. There is a difference between being selfish and selfless.
Phoebe Halliwell

A memorable episode is when the sisters go into the future in order to save Phoebe from being killed. No one could understand the reasoning behind her execution until the end of the episode where they find out she killed a bad person. Knowing Prue and Piper, they were determined to save their sister, yet, Phoebe insists on being killed because "The wrong thing done for the right reason is still the wrong thing." This life lesson is one that I think gets overlooked because being selfish can start small and turn into a huge burden.
10. Being the eldest sibling doesn't mean you have to be strong all the time.
Prue Halliwell

Prue is the eldest of the sisters and due to their mother's death, Prue had to be the caretaker and the protector constantly. She was always seen as strong and overprotective, but in her sensitive moments, they would destroy her. The eldest is allowed to be weak sometimes. Being strong doesn't have to be a full-time job.
11. Being the middle sibling doesn't mean you have to make sure everyone gets along.
Piper Halliwell

Piper is the classic middle child stereotype. She constantly felt the need to be the peacekeeper. The series literally begins with Prue and Phoebe in a disagreement with Piper being the messenger and fixer of the family. Because of this, everything had to fall into place for Piper or else all hell would break loose. An example of this would be Piper's wedding, Prue and Phoebe had to try and keep everything inline for Piper and when that didn't work out, everything hit the fan. That being said, being the peacekeeper doesn't mean you aren't allowed to get upset or let things get messy, you need some imperfections every once and awhile.
12. Being the youngest sibling doesn't make you irresponsible.
Phoebe Halliwell

Phoebe is the baby of the family... until season 4... but, she is known as the irresponsible sister. She was the troublemaker in her teens and impulsively moved to New York when Grams died. She is in love with a demon and kinda throws all caution to the wind. However, I do think that Phoebe is more than that. She is actually the smartest out of the group due to her knowledge of the Book of Shadows and can kick butt with her karate skills. So, just because you may be the baby, doesn't mean you are the troublemaker, sometimes you can be the most responsible.
13. Family comes first.
The Power of Three spell with Phoebe, Prue, and Piper
http://thecharmedcafe.proboards.com/thread/12236/standout-moment-charmed
No matter what goes right or wrong with the Halliwells, they always have each other. Not only that, they have people like Leo, Andy, Daryl, Grams, Cole, Paige, and even their cat, Kit. Family is what makes them. Literally, the power of sisterhood is what created the Charmed Ones. It's the Power of Three. The Halliwells really prove that family is the only necessity to survive, biological or not. Never forget about them, you need them.
The Halliwell sisters have a crazy life. Sure, it is fictional but personally, I have learned a lot from them about all aspects of life. Now, the CW is releasing this reboot of Charmed and sure, it may get good views, but nothing can replace the original cast and storyline. The Charmed Ones can't be changed, altered, or replaced in my heart.
