Saving Water

Living in California we are constantly told to save water and to use more public transportation but let’s face it how often do we actually use public transportation and more importantly who are all these people saving water? I have looked around my neighborhood and there are many yellow and brown lawns but in every driveway there is a squeaky clean car. So, I asked myself if every driver can go an extra week without washing their car can they go a full month? I took it upon myself to complete this challenge, ignoring my mother’s negative comments about my car getting increasingly dirty.

One month turned into two and before I knew it April was over and my car’s only experience with water was the rain that occurred a few weeks earlier. At last I set up a time to take my car to get washed but the inside was just as bad as the outside. You see I work only weekend and after work we usually hang out: either to dinner or a movie. That means that I have a lot of wardrobe changes inside my car and I don’t always take out the extra outfits. As the day drew close I knew I would have to be preparing for the guys at the car wash place to judge my messy car; while they vacuumed and washed my car I kept thinking that they recycle water and I am not only helping myself and making my mother happy but I am also helping my planet. Once my car was squeaky clean I gave them a good tip and drove away feeling like I made a difference.

The idea of saving water is one of the biggest topics in current American politics however in California it is the top issue, so why do people keep using their garden hose to wash their cars, why not go to a car wash place that recycles water. The answer is because everyone thinks that they don’t make a different: “I am just one person, there are tons others that are saving water in other way” but I’m here to say that very one person can make a difference. People need to stop thinking that they are alone because there are millions of billions of people that have the power to make a difference, it only take one person to start. Saving water is a worldwide issue that that everyone worries about.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
