As a senior in high school, I had blinders on when it came to picking a college. The whole process stressed me out beyond words and once I found a school I thought would become "my" school, I didn't listen to what anybody was saying to me anymore. Everything was in one ear and out the other, without even giving it a second thought.
On the three hour ride with my family to move in day, I began to second guess my decision. I wondered if I could handle being so far away at school, where I didn't even know a single person. As the year progressed, I realized the school that I chose just wasn't for me, and this broke my heart. I knew that constantly wanting to go home every weekend and crying every time I went back wasn't healthy, nor was it making me happy like I thought I would be. This school was everything I thought I wanted, amazing academic programs, a beautiful location, and really really great people.
But I wasn't happy there, and I couldn't keep forcing myself to try and like it like everybody else wanted to. So, I made the decision to transfer somewhere closer to home for the next school year. Although it was a hard decision, I had to do what was best for me. So if you're struggling where you are and feel like you need to make a change, do it. Everyone around you might not think you're making the right decision but it's not about them, it's about you. Do what's best for you and you will find your happiness.
