What It's Like Being A Transfer Student Your Senior Year

Missing out on my planned senior year.

The reason I transferred to Northwood was because I heard they were an all business school, so being a marketing and advertising major, I left Olivet. When I attended Olivet, I wasn’t learning much into my degree and wanted to make sure I would be able to survive in the real world with the education that I was provided with in college. This spring at Northwood, I got to join the soccer team. For my first semester at Northwood, I enjoyed how the classes all dealt with some sort of a business aspect, while at Olivet College I would be writing five to six written essays that were in cursive about microeconomics. Also, I would have had to remember over 500 terms for my business law two class, where in the first class I didn’t retain much. But now I am realizing that going into my senior year of college, I won’t be able to do things like I planned.

I won’t be able to see my best friends that I made at Olivet. I only got to visit them a handful of times while I was at Northwood just due to how busy we all were. But we were all able to get together on each of our birthdays no matter what. You think in college you will be able to graduate with your best friends, but I won’t be able to. I'll graduate from Northwood only knowing a handful of people, but I do plan on watching my friends from Olivet graduate.

I also will be very busy with soccer this fall. Usually this fall at Olivet with my friends we would enjoy what was left of the warm weather, watch the football games and have fun on the weekends. This fall I will be taking 19 credits, playing soccer and my weekends will be full of games. Don’t get me wrong, I love soccer with everything and enjoy all the girls on the team, but it just bothers me knowing that my best friends won’t be with me every day and I won’t be able to see them that often.

I don’t regret my decision of transferring. I love the education I am getting, and I actually feel like I am being prepared for the real world. Although I say I hate Olivet, I will never forget that I met my best friends there and that the memories we shared will never be forgotten. I would like to thank Natalie and Kelsey for always being there for me, and I am blessed to have them as my best friends. I hope to spend our last year (minus Kelsey) having fun and always to stay in each other’s lives after we graduate. I would also like to thank the Northwood women’s soccer team for making me feel welcomed this spring when I started training. I had fun my first semester at Northwood and hope to meet more people in my last year.

Go Comets.

Go Timberwolves.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
