I will be the first one to admit that I understand change and learning to adapt to new situations like the back of my hand. I've had to learn to adapt to so many new experiences that it's just become a part of who I am and my personality. This 100% stems from the fact that I'm about to be 20 years old and I've moved a total of 19 times in my young life. Moving around so often has taught me to adjust quickly to whatever location I'm in. I've lived in the deep south, up north, and most currently, the majority of New England.
When my family decided to make a big move before my senior year of high school, I decided to make the big move to transfer for my senior year. I'm a huge advocate for making the best of whatever's thrown your way, even if it scares the crap out of you when you're first presented the idea. If I hadn't chosen to transfer, (I had the option to stay at my original high school and drive 25 minutes), I may not have met some of the people I call my best friends. I may not have even attended the university I do now and have met even more amazing people that I know are going to be in my life forever. I don't believe in fate, but I believe you have the power to make your own decisions that can benefit you and your life in the long haul.
I'm not saying everyone needs to go transfer schools now, quit their job, etc., but I think that change can have such a positive impact on how you see the world around you. I know a lot of people that get upset when something drastically changes in their life and makes it a teensier bit more difficult. Instead of turning a situation that seems so awful actually into an awful situation, it's much more beneficial to turn it into something effective. Even if a huge change in your life seems questionable, I think it's worth it to try it out and see where the wind takes you. If it doesn't work out, fine, it didn't work out and you move onto something else. But if it does, not only are you not toying with any regret, but that change has just made you ten times happier.
Change is positive, and I think it's healthy too. It challenges you to challenge your own opinions, ideas, thoughts, and outcomes you might not have thought of before. It probably sounds easier said than done and a smidgen cliche, but change is what drives people to do incredible and passionate things. I honestly feel like a motivational speaker when I write these articles sometimes, but I know they're benefiting someone out there who might feel a bit lost. I like to think that if you have two choices, go with the one that scares you the most, because that's the one that's going to help you become the person you're meant to be.
