It’s the oldest saying in the book, “people change”. Depending on the circumstance and the person, it could be for the worse or for the better. There are some changes that will inevitably happen and others that we initiate ourselves. College provides the perfect time to do so.
There are many personal changes that can happen and do happen as a result of a personal choice. Physical changes can be argued as a matter of a change in mindset and levels of determination, while changes in the kind of people one associates themselves with are directly correlated with changes in preference. Either way, when the choice is made to change an aspect of one’s life, this conscious decision can make or break the direction that a particular life takes.
The changes that are more permanent and more lasting are those that aren’t realized until after they have happened. Being exposed to new and different things inflicts causation for such a subconscious change. In short, life changes people. Births exude with boastful pleasure the beauty and disposable nature which the beginning of life is so privy to. Death of family and close friends bring awareness to the reality that our time on this earth is but a fleeting moment in the span of eternity. Somewhere in between births and deaths come (on average) seventy-something years of “figuring it out”. I in order for this “figuring it out” to take control over the fate of what we will eventually become, it is necessary for a couple things (or a couple hundred things) about ourselves to change.
Without changes in ourselves, there would be no development of beliefs, relationships, or education. Change is great, but as is typical in just about everything, a downside to change follows quickly behind. We are all aware that we experience individual change, but the one thing that never fails to bring shock time and time again is to see that change mirrored back to us in the form of other people. When friends you have known for years become strangers in the face of change, it can break your heart. To see life get the best of these eternal friends
