Change

Terrifying, but worth it.

Sometimes we get stuck in a rut. Same old, same old. We run out of things to distract us from following the same routine, but it’s not that simple. There is this constant mind game being played in our heads about whether or not to change our situations.

There is a part of us that wants to stay in the routine, because it’s safe and not much can go wrong. Yet, there is another part of us that seeks adventure and new beginnings. The problem is, this side of us is sparse and is extremely dangerous. This is not only what we have been thinking, but what society has been teaching.

We’ve all heard the phrase, “Just try it. Worst thing that could happen is you don’t like it.”

Here is the problem, the people telling us these things, aren’t the ones to talk. They tell us not to fear change, when in reality, they do the same thing. We all do. We are all guilty of telling others to do what we fear, in hopes they actually do it while we watch from the sidelines.

But if we don’t embrace change, then how will we ever get out of our ruts? You know what I'm talking about. The times when nothing seems to be going your way, you question your every move, you complain (thinking that will help) and you repeat. You repeat and repeat, until one day you wake up and are sick and tired of playing the same game.

Something changes inside you the day you wake up and want to change. I’m not saying it has to be drastic, but the fact that you want to do it in the first place is bold. Life is too short to be stuck on the spin cycle; Doing the same things over and over again.

I woke up one day and was unhappy; Unhappy with my repetitive life and wanted to change. I wish I could say it was something exceptionally bold, like quitting my job or buying a new car. Sadly, as a 19 year-old college student it was neither of those things. But a new piercing that people don’t like, as well as a dye job on my hair did the trick… For now. I think I will always be the girl who gets bored and needs change. You know, change, the thing everyone fears. While it can be terrifying at times, it can also be refreshing; Going against society and embracing it with open arms.

You too should try this whole "change" thing. I’ve never felt more like myself than I do right now. Give it a shot. You have everything to gain.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
