Celebrities are everywhere and everyone has a particular person they follow intently. Mine is Ed Sheeran. This past year he took a break from touring, music, and social media. The other day he tweeted for the first time in a whole year. When I saw the notification on my phone I freaked out and almost started to cry, yes I'm that person. The tweeted ended up being a blue screen, no words. This picture still had me freaking out and it got me to thinking about how much celebrities impact our lives.
Everywhere we look we see celebrities. They are on magazines and all over our social media. We follow their lives so closely and want to know what they are doing everyday. We judge celebrities based on the headlines we see and what they post on Instagram or Facebook but that's never all of it. Celebrities on social media is just part of them.
Their pages, without us realizing, shape our views of not only that person but our own lives.
Most people, at some point, are guilty of comparing their lives to others. Having celebrity lives shown everywhere makes it easier to do. I know for teens it can be hard to see what other people are doing at the same age as them. Making them question, "what am I doing with my life? I want to be like them." It gives us that "perfect" world but in reality do they have a perfect life?
Their lives are analyzed by everyone. We feel like we have this right to know what they 24/7. And when they aren't on social media or gone for awhile we get mad because we want to know what they are doing. But do we really have that right? They are humans too. And you wouldn't want your life to be under a microscope. Famous life is glamorized.
Celebrities have very little privacy. They are followed by fans and paparazzi. Would you want that?
I'm guilty of following Ed Sheeran closely but I also know he's just a 25 year old trying to live his life. So yes you can follow your favorite people on social media, just don't get too into their lives. Don't judge them based on what you see because you don't personally know them. Enjoy their post and respect their decisions because you wouldn't want others to be so involved and judgmental of your life.
