Celebrities are people that we indirectly deal with on a daily basis. Either through their profession, listening to their music or watching them in a show or anything else, or even now today through social media, watching their snap stories or just seeing their tweets on our timelines. These people that we don’t even know are a part of our daily lives and we may sometimes feel as if we know them. Some obsess over such people while others choose to overlook their status. Often putting down those who do look up to such celebrities because “they’re just regular people.” Well, I am going argue that they are not just regular people and it is okay to look up to them.

Celebrities are human just like you and I. They are flawed, they make mistakes, and at the beginning of the day they put on their pants one leg at a time. But, they are also very special. These people enter millions of people’s home through various forms. They have the ability to touch lives without ever actually having met said life. The have ability to inspire change just by a few clicks on their touch screen. Whether you agree with their celebrity status or not it is important to acknowledge that they do possess an astounding amount of power. Taylor Swift’s tweets are broadcast to a whopping 77 million followers, which still trails Katy Perry’s 88.3 million. These people have an immense platform for which they can promote their beliefs, talents, etc.

Though, there is a major downside to the vast audience that they have and it is that the audience doesn’t go away. Their celebrity status makes these people a spectacle. Their every move broadcast in magazines, television, and now online, just waiting for them to make a mistake. Their names often being dragged through the mud or being written off as something that they are not. Going through this day in and day out, being able to endure such a thing makes them very different from us. We can run to the grocery store without being picked apart for what we’re wearing; they cannot.

Celebrities are human but they’re not ordinary people. A lot of them are some of the most talented people in the world, whether it be in music, acting, or even athleticism. A lot of these people have worked hard to get to where they are today and attained their celebrity status through perseverance, so don’t feel ashamed if you give them praise. Don’t feel bad if you care enough about what a celebrity has to say that you get their tweets sent to your phone. When these people are not abusing their power it is okay to look up to them.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
