As a member of Sigma Delta Tau at Michigan State University, I am lucky enough to have the service of College Chefs in my house that serves tasty meals and late plates that make you a little less home sick. Honestly, I was nervous when moving into my house about the meals that we would be provided with. Living with 40 girls, there are many different likes and dislikes, and it is hard to please all 40 women at one time. Personally, I am someone who enjoys eating healthy and fresh food. Other people I know are perfectly content eating pasta for every meal or fried things. While I enjoy food like that every once in a while, I would much rather eat clean.

College Chefs made my worries go away after the first week. We were warned that there was going to be a period of trial and error as our chef got to know our kitchen and what our likes and dislikes were. To my surprise, Chef Brad absolutely killed it the first week! Each meal got better than the next and there was a lot of variation. What's even better is that all the food I was consuming was good for me.

Each meal for us consists of a protein, a green, a starch, and fruit. This makes for a well-rounded, filling meal, and I was thoroughly impressed that all of this was provided to us. In addition to the main meal, there is always a full salad bar filled with everything to build the perfect salad. From arugula to romaine and banana peppers to broccoli, our salad bar has it all! Our chef even cuts up fresh fruit and vegetables to snack on, and some food that might be harder to find on a college campus like quinoa, are sometimes included. By far, the salad bar is my favorite option for when I'm not the biggest fan of the main dish. And you don't have to feel bad or go hungry if you're not exactly feeling it. There are always alternatives! Underneath our salad bar, our chef also keeps yogurt for a healthy alternative to cereal in the morning.

As you might have realized, our Chef Brad is amazing! We love him being in our house because he is always willing to meet your dietary needs. Chef Brad knows that I choose to eat on the healthier side, so he will always offer to make me something healthier. Usually, if he makes something fried, he will bake or steam the same thing, for those of us who like to eat healthier as well.

Overall, I find it extremely easy to eat the way I like to, which is healthy, clean, and fresh. While I had my concerns going into the year, I could not be more happy with each passing meal. For me, healthy eating is all about the choices you make. And while sometimes it’s hard to go for that piece of friend chicken, there is always something else I can eat that will be just as yummy and filling. While I definitely indulge in Chef Brad’s masterpieces from time to time, I definitely feel more at home eating the things I normally would. Thank you, Chef Brad for making our house a home!

Marching Through March

Some appreciation for the month of March.

I love the entire year. Well, for the most part. I'm not a big fan of Winter, but even then, every month has something that's pretty great. November? Thanksgiving. December? Winter Holidays. January? New Year's. February? Valentine's and Single Awareness Day. May? Existential dread during finals. But for me, March has always been my favorite month of the year, and for good reason.
