On one of the deadliest Friday the 13th of all time and flat-out one of the darkest days in our world’s history, over 100,000 lives were lost in Paris, Japan, Mexico, Beriut, and Baghdad due to natural occurrences and terrorism, and Nigeria lost many lives due to attacks earlier this week. Everyone in some form or fashion has been affected by what took placed on Friday, Nov. 13. Over the weekend, many people, including myself, changed their Facebook profiles to show solidarity to France for arguably the worst attack on their country in years. They had our back after the 9/11 attacks and have been an ally for years.
I have no problem with people showing banning together to show love and solidarity toward their fellow man. I DO have a problem with people using tragedies to further their own agenda and propaganda and those that say one tragedy is bigger than another. When you put yourself above others when it comes to awful events, you’re demonstrating the sad part of humanity.
As mentioned earlier, the world was in shock when news broke about Paris, France being under attacked by terrorists. The attacks were still going on, and for some weird reason…President Obama is the main person to blame. That’s right…an AMERICAN president is somehow, someway to blame for a terrorist attack on a FRENCH city, and the terrorists was NON-AMERICAN. I’m not naïve, there have been issues in our country that I do feel Obama is responsible for, just like every other President we’ve had. But this is downright pathetic. It’s just like me blaming Bush for Canada banning hockey. I get for some people it’s easy to play the blame game and pin it on the government for everything wrong with your life, but sometimes you have to use a thing called YOUR BRAIN and COMMON SENSE (which is becoming extinct, but that’s another story) and understand that maybe, just maybe, there are just evil people out there that need to be taught a lesson, maybe even a permanent lesson. That’s what most people want to see…justice. But some people seem to have an issue with blacks standing up for Paris, France in the wake of an awful tragedy. And those people just happen to be…black themselves. Apparently you can only focus on one issue and that’s only if that issue is regarding the black community ONLY. That’s just downright ignorant and sad. Yes, black people are aware that there are race issues. Yes, the black community as a whole has trust issues due to recent events (Mizzou, Ferguson, etc.) Trust us, we get it. But that doesn’t mean blacks can’t care for others as well as their own. Oppression and hate are not a competition. No one asked to be the color they are, but guess what? No one asked to get shot at or blown up just enjoying their day either. It’s perfectly fine to be upset with racial profiling and at the same time be upset at the Paris attacks.
These days too many people love to hate and it’s made this world into something ugly. There have always been problems, but never to the extent we’re seeing today. People love to quote passages, but only to prove a point instead of enlightening others. I’m going to end this with a passage that I try to live by and hope you all do as well. It’s from John 13:34, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” This passage won’t cure our internal issues, and it won’t happen overnight, but we’ve all got to start somewhere.
