5 Ways Cats Are Basically Four-Legged Children

Cats and children have more in common than you might think.

5 Ways Cats Are Basically Four-Legged Children
Alex Claycomb

Being in my later twenties, I see many people around my age either already have a family or are about to start having a family. I also see my fair share of similarly aged people who are like me and have yet to settle down. I do however have several cats and they do act like kids quite a bit.

1. They can cry..a lot!

While cats cannot actually speak, they make up for that by crying and meowing. Some of my cats barely make a sound, whereas I have other cats that make up for that by making quite a bit of noise throughout the day for various reasons. Usually, they can cry because they want attention, want something to eat, or want to go outside.

2. They seem like they are always hungry..but then barely eat what you give them.

Food Time

Alex Claycomb

My cats eat at certain times every day, and we have bowls of dry cat food around the house all day. Yet, some of these cats barely touch the food that is given to them. My cat Sasha is my oldest cat, and she is also my pickiest cat to boot. I have some other cats that cry and jump for food but barely eat anything out of their bowls.

3. They want attention..on their own terms of course.

Play

Alex Claycomb

When you want to play with your cats, they may not always want to play with you at that time. However, it is always at an inopportune time when they decide that they do want attention. When you are not busy, the cats want to be left to themselves. When you are busy, then the cats decide they want some attention.

4. They get in the way when you try to do things..like play video games.

Attention

Alex Claycomb

When my cats want attention, I am usually doing something like playing video games or watching Hulu, and I do not often enjoy being interrupted while I am in a sedentary state. However, cats do not care what you want; they only care about what they want. My cat Lucky has some jealousy towards video games based on how he likes to try to chew my video game accessories.

5. Sleeping can also be a challenge.

Sleeping

Alex Claycomb

I can have as much as four cats on my bed at one time. Mind you, I only have a twin bed, and I am not that skinny. So trying to sleep in my bed can sometimes be quite a challenge. I often have to adjust my body around at least one cat as to disturb them as little as possible. Another case of what is mine is now theirs.

6. Everything that is yours is theirs now.

Personal Property

Alex Claycomb

Food, charging cables, cell phones, you name it, and they will probably want it. One cat in particular, Lucky, tends to chew on a lot of my stuff, usually my more expensive possessions such as my laptop, cell phone, and gaming controllers. I am convinced that he is jealous of my video games based on how much he tried to chew my various video game accessories.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
