Catty Catholic.
This is a term I grew up hearing my whole life. Catholic. I think that it has received such a derogatory reputation. Lots of people associate Catholics with being snobby, conceited, and unsociable. They think that Catholics think they are better than any other person on this planet. However, that is the least case possible. Catholics just are more strict than many other religions. I myself wouldn't trade growing up Catholic for the world.
My mom enrolled me in a Catholic school. She went there and so did all of her siblings. She and my dad decided that attending a Catholic School would better prepare me and my sibling for the future. In ways I think Catholic School prepared me for the real world more than I ever could have imagined.
Catholic School taught me what it was like to have a job at a young age. I was required to work as an alter girl three days of the week. This "job" taught me how to behave in front of people and how to work with others in a required service. Also, I was a song leader. This gave me an opportunity as a young child to take on a leadership role that not many people are to take until later in his or her life. This allowed me to reinvent myself and the way I work with other because it was an overall group effort. Not to mention I worked on my singing.
Growing up in Catholic School also taught me how to dress appropriately. Some people think that having a uniform is bad for young kids. That is limits their creative ability. However, as a child I never had to worry about if what I was wearing was appropriate or not. All I had to worry about was if my work was done and if I was on time.
Growing up Catholic also taught me how to value my religion. When I transferred schools, I kept up with my Catholic schooling. I was always proud of who I was and how I grew up. I always kept up with my standards as a Catholic woman and walked in the way of Jesus. I didn't care what others thought of me so long as I lived for myself and Jesus. I honestly don't think I would have become the same person today without the knowledge I gained in Catholic school.
Catholic has a derogatory opinion according to many people. However, I myself wouldn't trade being Catholic for the world. I learned how to grow as an independent woman. I learned how to continue being Catholic even when the rest of the world didn't want me to live that way. I gained morals and education I couldn't receive anywhere else. Catholic is who I am and how I wish to stay.
