Going to Catholic school taught me many things. From great academics, to discovering soft pretzels with Doritos crushed in the middle was the ultimate lunch time snack, to making life long friends, it was a major part of my life. If you went to Catholic school, also, you know that going to mass as a school was a weekly thing. As you got older, you thought singing in church was lame, but you have to admit that there were some church songs that you didn't mind singing because they were your jam. These were the songs that you drove your parents crazy singing through the house and the ones that were stuck in your head for days on end.
“Our God Is An Awesome God”
Not only were the lyrics truthful and would get stuck in your head for hours after mass, but the beat of the song, which was the best part, made you wanna shout from the church top how much you love God.
“Somebody’s Knockin’ At Your Door”
This song made me physically want to act out what the song is saying. My personal favorite part was “Oh sinner, why don’t you answer?” You could always sing that part with sass.
“Table Of Plenty”
As the whole school was singing in key and together, I couldn’t help but think how big that table would be.
“Shout to the Lord”
This was the most fun song to sing. It had a dramatic beat and the kid inside you literally shouts it to the Lord.
“Roll Away The Stone”
The best Easter jam that ever did exist.
“Gloria”
I remember singing this at my First Holy Communion and the whole class singing “In Eggshell See Stay Oh” instead of “in excelsis Deo”
“Shine Jesus Shine”
You felt like a boss when you remember it went from “Shine Jesus Shine” to “Blaze Spirit Blaze.”
“Hail Holy Queen” and “Immaculate Mary”
May Processions were a major thing at Catholic Schools. Not only did it signify that the school year was nearing the end but it also meant you got to sing those May Procession bops.
