After writing last week's article, I realized how much I actually miss all of the Nashville restaurants. So I thought that I would spend some time each week spotlighting some of my favorite places individually.
Flipside
Flipside is located on 12 South, specializing in specialty chicken dishes. The decor is retro and reminiscent of a mid-1900s diner. In the summer, they open up all the windows so you get fresh air while you eat. It's the perfect first date spot because there are trivia cards at every table -- in case you run out of things to talk about.
Appetizer - Tater Tot Nachos
You could really eat this as your main meal if you wanted to! This dish is a plate of happiness, and that isn't an exaggeration -- crispy, fresh tater tots loaded up with avocado, bacon pieces, tomatoes and jalapenos. The chef then douses the entire dish in creamy, melted white cheese. It brings the whole dish together and is the perfect texture complement to the crispy tater tots.
Entree - Primo or Phuket
The Primo
This is by far my favorite chicken dish out there. One of the cool things about the chicken at Flipside is that you can get it fried and crispy or pan sauteed. I don't like breaded chicken, so I like that I can avoid that. This chicken dish in particular is smothered with a fresh, herby basil, topped with thick slices of tomato and then covered in mozzarella that melts over the top to cover it all.
The Phuket
This is not my go-to, but it is one of the most unique chicken dishes I have ever tried. Their normal butterflied chicken breast is slathered generously with creamy peanut butter. A handful of light and fresh Thai slaw is placed on top and splashed with Sriracha. Peanut butter on chicken sounds crazy, but trust me, the way that these flavors and textures play together is incredible. The Sriracha is intensely spicy, but the smooth peanut butter mellows it out, and the slaw adds a refreshing aftertaste.
Dessert - Chocolate Chip Cookie Milkshake
No meal is ever complete without dessert. This milkshake is a must-have, especially if you're getting a spicy entree like the Phuket. This shake blends up actual chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream. It's the ultimate reinvention of cookies and milk. Add whipped cream and cookie crumbles -- this shake is the cherry on top of a perfect meal.
