So you have a cat. But you’re wondering, am I a cat lady? According to Wikipedia, a cat lady is a single woman who dotes upon her cat or cats. The term is usually considered pejorative, though it is sometimes embraced. There has been a spoof video circulating the web of a woman who would be considered a cat lady by anyone who watches it. She tries to make the video for eHarmony but breaks down crying when thinking/talking about cats. This has made me think about what actually makes someone a cat lady. I have come up with some questions that you can ask yourself to determine if you truly are a cat lady.
Do you get emotional when thinking about how cute cats are?
If you find yourself crying when talking about the fluffiness, playfulness, or their cute noses, you might be a cat lady. If your conversation with the Starbucks barista is solely about the matching sweaters you snagged for you and your cat… do I even have to say it?
Are you single with a cat?
Oftentimes, being single is associated with having many cats, or even just one. It is thought that girls with cats scare guys away. A time or two, my mother has told me that I will never find a man if I am always so focused on my cat. But I mean really, men leave, cats don’t.
When you are out with humans, would you rather be cuddled in bed with your cat?
Have you ever been out on the dance floor, awaiting the minute that your friends are ready to call it a night, just so you can go home and see your cute kitten? If the answer is yes, you ARE a cat lady.
PetSmart or Target?
The average female goes to Target about 5 times a week (my estimate). The average cat lady goes to PetSmart 5 times a week. PetSmart has all your cat needs, why wouldn’t you go 5 times a week? I mean have you seen the cute kittens in the little boxes?!
Do you keep cat food in your car for the strays you see?
So many cats roam the streets without anyone to love them. Do you stop on the side of the road to feed them? It’s okay if you do. I am not ashamed to say, correction, I am proud to say that I keep cat food in my car. One too many times I have gotten out and fed random cats. So really, it’s okay if you do.
If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you are probably a cat lady. I answered yes to four out of the five so I myself, am a cat lady. Don’t worry though, the cat lady phenomenon is sweeping the nation. If you ask me, I think that its cool to be a cat lady. Everybody’s doing it.
