I Want Candy! NOW!

I Want Candy! NOW!

In children’s eyes, calendars are not about schedules and due dates. Calendars serve one purpose, and one purpose only: to tell children how long something will last. Specifically, little kids use calendars to plan how long they can ration their Halloween candy. Or, at least how long they can ration their candy until their parents go searching through their room for those trick-or-treat bags and pillow cases. Some kids put their candy in categories according to the type, counting them several times over to see how much of each kind they have. They put the candies in piles, usually separating them by most important, somewhat important, and least important. So, is your favorite candy a part of my list? Let’s find out.

1. Candy Corn

We all love this little, triangular shaped sweets. Some are packaged in clear plastic bags, or hand-wrapped in their own little bags. Did anyone else over eat these by taking bites of each color? Starting with the orange, and then the yellow, and then finally finishing it off with the white? Or did you just eat these candies by the handful and hoped you wouldn’t get sick of it by the fourth or fifth time?

2. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

This candy is personally my favorite at any time of the year. This candy is special—particularly around the holidays—since the company redesigns the physical figure of it. It is no longer the regular cup during Halloween, but instead the shape of a pumpkin. (Though sometimes it does not look like a pumpkin at all.) The melting chocolate mixed in with the peanut butter that gets stuck at the top of your mouth tastes absolutely delicious. Sadly, when you peel this candy from it’s wrapper, part of the chocolate at the bottom comes off with it. Some people make the dumb decision to ignore it and go along and eat the rest of the candy. But why waste even the smallest morsel of such a delicious treat? Be like me: eat the chocolate off of the wrapper and then eat the rest of the candy. Also, if you all want to add even more calories to your campfire treat of s’mores, try it with Reese’s Cups. It’s mouthwatering.

3. Tootsie Rolls

Now these little suckers are a huge problem, but they are delicious. They are just chocolate, straight and incredibly chewy chocolate. You love to eat this one because honestly, it does give a little bit of a fight. It’s hard to eat, so you use your back molars to try and break it down enough to swallow. Yet, this candy hugs onto the teeth, and it is almost impossible to get it off. So you work to get it off, which takes awhile and your mouth and tongue get tired, but it does come off and you swallow it eventually. Then the process starts again with the next tootsie roll you pop into your mouth.

4. Kit Kats

You have seen the commercials for this chocolate wafer. The crack it makes when the two pieces disconnect by force. You probably tried to repeat this action, trying to get that crack and feel joy for a little while. Here’s a spoiler alert: freeze the candy and you might just get that sound. One of my favorite parts about this candy is that sometimes, the company puts other words beside “Kit Kats” on the chocolate bars. Around Halloween, they print things like “Happy Halloween,” “Boo!,” and “Trick-or-Treat.” Hopefully they continue this tradition; it’s fun to see what messages I might get.

5. Twix

This candy is kind of a copy of the Kit Kat, with the cracker and the chocolate. What the main difference is between these two candies is the gooey, sticky caramel that stretches out when you break the Twix in two. This tasty treat is chocolaty on the outside, crunchy on the inside, and has caramel that sticks to absolutely everything. It’s good!

Halloween is just around the corner, so make sure you make that dentist appointment! You never know how much candy you are going to inhale. Good luck with trick-or-treating!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
