With three of Shonda Rhimes' hit shows coming to their finales within a month, I have got to say, this lady has got it going on. The producer of Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder may seem like just another brilliant woman with a knack for pulling at the audience's emotions, but here are seven more reasons to love Shonda Rhimes.
She is a mom. With everything she has on her plate, she still manages to keep up with her three daughters.
She is ridiculously smart. Rhimes attended Dartmouth for her undergrad and then film school at USC. She chose USC after she read in an article that it was harder to get into than Harvard Law School.
She is empowering for people of all races. When Grey's Anatomy was being cast, Rhimes set up blind auditions, meaning any role could be played by any race, which was practically unheard of at the time.
(No, Cristina, it's not because you're Asian.)
Shonda Rhimes may have held auditions that were blind to race, but they certainly were not blind to the eye. That, alone, is another reason to love her.
She is dedicated to responding to her fans, especially on Twitter. She likes to keep fans updated on what is going on in the shows, which is a relief because each episode's cliff hanger leaves me looking a little like this:
She never gives up. Back in 2002, Rhimes wrote a screenplay with Britney Spears that was nominated for the Razzie for Worst Screenplay of the year. Three years later, Grey's Anatomy was born.
She is talented in other areas, as well. President Obama appointed her to the board of trustees for the Kennedy Center, proving that she is a jack-of-all-trades.
